West is a mess and may get worse now that it is Lake of Week in Outdoor News.

Sad that they would post such a heavily pressured lake as lake of the week. I have never seen so many wheel houses on a local lake in my life. Really hope those crappie limits change

would part of the crowded wheelhouse issue be because most lakes north of braindead are no longer accessible unless there is a plowed road???

Just asking. Even Jeff Sundin, a guide from grand rapids seems to given up

I’d definitely be on board with some more restrictions with crappies. I’d even be fine with a catch and release only season while they’re spawning, like we have with walleye and pike on inland waters.

I have no idea. It’s hard to believe people would travel to pound on 6 to 9 inch crappies. But they have to be coming from somewhere. We go out there for a different type of fish. But you can count 300 houses at any given time

    A few questions:

    1) Does anyone really still read OutdoorNews ?

    2) Are they really catching that many fish ?

Then again, I suppose if the aggregate total among all anglers over the season is high it is eventually not sustainable for the lake ?

    Per MN DNR:

I wonder when any real data will be generated and if the DNR would be enabled to enact rules that work even if they want to?

The new sunfish regulations only include inland waters of Minnesota. Specifically, 44 waters will have a new daily limit of five sunfish, 31 will have a limit of 10 sunfish, 17 will have a limit of five sunfish and five crappie, and two will have a limit of 10 sunfish and five crappies.

In addition to the new waters, there are 57 waters that previously had reduced limits for sunfish and these regulations remain in effect.

Went to west rush for an overnight in my hub shack this weekend. Huge mistake there was wheel houses packed 3 feet from each other on every decent piece of structure. Just got as far away from the crowd as I could well still being on the structure. Still caught a bucket of eater gills and crappies but fishing was pretty slow considering we were fishing for like 20 hours. Fish were very very finicky definitely not going here again in winter just considering how busy it gets. I’m just surprised it hasn’t gotten fished out yet.

This can’t be. Outdoor News says it’s the best lake around. I think k that’s if you want to hear generators screaming and garbage blowing.
It’s crazy how tight they pack in. The wheelhouses block each other so the middle guys couldn’t leave if they wanted. Very ugly thing it’s turning in to.
