I got out on my favorite east Metro Bass lake very early this morning. Air temp was 57, the water temp was 76. That produced some fog and haze. Today I was only throwing topwater flies with my eight weight. Action was fast and furious right up to moon set. I haven’t been a follower of those tables or predictions however I did notice the position of the moon when I first launched and kept my eye on it as the morning progressed. Most of the fish were along the outside weedline in six to eight feet of water. The pictures are of a couple of the better ones.

Awesome fish, Dad! If only I could bring myself to get up that early! Hmmm, perhaps my fly casting would improve if I was half asleep and more relaxed. mrgreen

How early in the morning are you getting out there? That 2nd picture makes it look really Dark. I am also a early morning fisherman but my early morning is like 5:00am. It’s been along time since I’ve bass fished in the Dark. I keep telling myself I’m going to do so again soon but never get around to it. We did catch a few bass on Leeches while lighted bobber fishing for walleye a few weeks ago. I may have to dust off the old jitterbugs and head out after dark or before light one of these days. Nothing like the sound of that Jitterbug getting smashed by a monster bass in the Dark.

There’s an open seat any time you want to go, Sharon!

Fishthumper I like to get out there an hour before 1st light, so yes it was pretty dark when I took that picture. It gets easier to be on the water early later on when they days start getting shorter! And I agree, there’s nothing like the sound of a big old bass slurping down a topwater bait.

Someday I may have to take up that Flyrod fishing. It’s always looked like a ton of fun. Just not sure if I have the patience for it yet at this time in my life.
