I headed out to my favorite East Metro Bass lake early this morning, I was on the water at 4AM. The air temp was 49 degrees, the water temps were 61-62 degrees everywhere I went and they already sprayed the lake so the weeds were slimy brown and dying, ughhh.
As usual I was throwing topwater bugs with my 8 weight fly rods, mainly Deer Hair divers. I managed to boat a half dozen decent fish but I had to cover a lot of ground to do it. They were scattered all over the lake and no real pattern presented itself. The strange thing is that I saw many more Bass than I caught. They were cruising the shallows and wouldn’t even look at anything I was throwing.
I don’t think they’re done with spawning yet and the lake always goes into a funk when they poison it with the annual herbicide spray. It should only get better and better.
