Easiest 10″ hole I’ve ever drilled

Thinking back to some of the giant beastly loud 10″ augers with extensions and such (the Jiffy comes to mind), the evolution has been quite amazing! Right around 17lbs and about as fast as you would ever want to cut, the new ION Alpha is truly impressive. If I didn’t know any different I would have guessed I was drilling 8″ holes.

That’s a pretty nice looking auger.

Even a noticable difference from the Gen2, which you’d have to lift up periodically to disperse the slush, as well as a bit of bite when breaking through the bottom. I’m digging the Alpha.

Oh, by the way. I did another video yesterday and I was stunned. The 10″ Alpha Plus was FASTER and EASIER to drill a hole than my 8″ Eskimo Pistol bit with Ridgid Octane drill and 9ah battery. Since when are 10″ holes faster and easier to drill than 8″? LOL

    This thing is awesome!

I don’t keep up on the “auger wars” stuff at all. I run a Milwaukee drill with either on old 8″ mora stuck in it, or an 8″ K drill. Clearly they’re not the latest, greatest – but they work.

Can you get just this 10″ Alpha Plus auger anywhere…and would the Milwaukee Hammer Drill run it? If so, this is the route I’d go next. I have enough Milwaukee batteries laying around, it’s more just what the drill is physically capable of handling.

Yes you can buy the bit as a spare part I believe, but it’s not just the auger bit/blades itself but rather a combination of the motor and battery too. Everything seems to be matched up so nicely. Without a doubt there are many ways to skin this cat, and I’ve used and tried a lot of auger drill combinations, but especially when it comes to a 10″ elec auger, this is top dog right now for sure.

I purchased a wheel house at the beginning of April i purchased a 24volt 8 inch SM from Scheels that I priced matched from Reeds. I was amazed at how lite this auger was and the how easy it cut through the ice.
