Early Morning Shallow Walleye?

I targeted shallow water early ice on mille lacs this year at sunrise in 10’fow and did really well but wondering if it would be a good idea to target that same spot this late in the season for the sunrise bite? not looking for numbers just solid fish. My house is out on the flats and we have been getting at least a couple hogs around midnight each weekend but the bite is slow in the early morning so I plan on running around tomorrow and just wondering if I should be targeting that shallow of water for sunrise this late?

    Thanks in advance!

Walleye fishing in general gets tougher later in the year. I’am a true believe that there is always some soft of population of walleyes that resort to the weeds. If there is bait around there will be walleyes. However I would probally concentrate more on fishing walleyes deeper. That’s where their food is this time of year, tulies and perch.

I was thinking I would move deeper after the sun came up but thought I might find some donkeys in shallow early morning.

I think it’s worth a try, walleyes generally move onto shallow humps at dusk and remain there all night. Might want to set up on the drop to catch them when they move deeper in the a.m.

Both of these fish were caught around 8a.m.from a metro lake in the past couple weeks. My Lowrance was reading 6.7feet of water with the depth of the transducer set to be even with the bottom of the ice.I have not tried water any shallower but my guess is that it may produce fish as well.

Nice fish Matte! Those look extremely healthy and “full”. I have gotten lucky a couple times with fish in the shallows, but mostly end up with small northerns (which is ok with me).
