With no ice in the Metro I decided to put some miles on this weekend and head to the North Country in search of gold! We met up with a buddy and searched out some safe ice. We were able to find a few lakes with fishable ice and found some Walleyes that were cooperative and hungry. All fish we released to swim, spawn and grow larger!

Looks like you were with Ben Putnam up in Ely. Nice dark fish!

Good eye, we met up with Ben and searched out fishable ice Saturday and Sunday. I wish I could head back up this weekend!

Haha 2 inches of wet snow/slush on the ice made for one tough pull off. By the time we hit the trail Kerri said “let me pull for a bit”. She handed the rope back to me shortly after the video cut -)

When I read Mocha’s comment about a pack mule, I thought you guys must have recruited that moose to pull the sled back to the jeep. Nice video bud, I had a great time fishing with you two!

I wish Mr. Moose could have pulled the sled all the way up to the Jeep! I was rather sweaty by the time we were done. We’ll have to connect again in January when we’re back up there.

Thanks man, it felt good to get back on the ice! Couldn’t ask for better scenery either.

They were the darkest Walleye’s I’ve caught to date. I wish I would have gotten some more close up photo’s of their coloration/fins.

Assuming you guys were on the walleye-rearing pond up there? I’m heading up with the better-half next week and hope to get a 1/2 day of fishing in while she skis.
