I live south of the metro and am looking to head north a couple of hours or so, like around st. cloud or towards mille lacs, if anyone has any idea of the ice conditions up there, or will I have to head out do south dakota? Looking for smaller lakes. Any ideas would be great! thanks

Thanks for the report, Davon! I don’t suppose you heard or drove by Knife Lake on 65 on the way to or from? Hear anything about the ice condition on that body of water?

The report posted on the Outdoor News website Thursday said the area on Knife Lake by the Indian Mounds Park on the southern part of lake was producing sunfish and crappie. I am likely headed there tomorrow morning, so hopefully that’s accurate.

I’m from Iowa and I was wondering what lake to hit up next weekend? I don’t wanna get up there and not find ice so i’m just wondering where there’s safe ice. By the way there’s no ice in Iowa.

I have found a lake around the south metro with some fairly decent ice to bring some light gear to. Circle Lake in Millersburg has about 3-4 inches of good ice in most areas. I am heading out there again tomorrow and will definately be bringing the redneck chisel out with me. If you are careful you can get to the island and some other surrounding points for some good panfish and a walleye or two.

Will the ice get thicker as the week goes on? I don’t know what your guy’s weather will be like. Sense your going out tomorrow will you report back to me. I don’t wanna drive 4 hours to find open water. Thanks and stay safe!

It is supposed to be in the teens here, but we are about to get a lot of snow these next few days. I have heard lots of people saying the lakes around here are all starting to hit that point that you can walk across them. It is going to stay below freezing, so good for ice, but the snow won’t help much. Didn’t have too much luck this morning only got three small crappies, but we might be going back out later. So Circle lake in Millersburg is safe. Just be careful. I was sitting on a little under five inches.

There was a decent drop in pressure from yesterday to today so it would be a good day to go out. I will check in with you on Thursday to see if circle lake is still safe. I’m looking to go Saturday or Sunday. I’m hungry for some fish!

Called a few resorts on Mille Lacs and all said be a couple weeks yet for houses.
Most said no foot traffic they can see, and personally they wouldn’t go out.

Still good around here. It is not a very large lake with area I would recommend the north side to the west of the island. If you don’t know where that is you will see when you get there. Still good ice and good amount of people traveling out with atvs and snowmobiles.
