I personally would stay away. It’s not a bad model of etec, but it’s becoming hard to find parts for them. Just my opinion.

Yep, No go. They stopped making Evinrude a couple years ago and parts/service may be a problem in the future.

They went out of business acouple years ago and parts/service may be a problem in the future.

BRP went out of business? You better call corporate HQ and let them know because they continue to build everything from airplanes to UTVs to trains. And Etec engines for snowmoabiles.

At the time that BRP discontinued Evinrude production and the Evinrude brand, they promised dealers OEM parts and support would be available for at least 5 years. And with the combination of aftermarket and OEM common parts, a lot of parts will be available practically forever.

Same thing I’ve always said when it comes to Etec, it all depends on the deal. Would I pay Yamaha money for an Etec? Obviously not. Would I buy one for half the price of a Yamaha… It depends. You spends your money and you takes your chances.

If it’s in good shape, well taken care of and lower hours, I wouldn’t hesitate. I have multiple friends with 75 and 90 etecs that have never had a hiccup. I hear horror stories about them but they seem to be on bigger e tecs

No mechanic where I bought my Yami would buy an E-Tech, and they used to sell them.

Best thing I ever did with my 75hp e tec was sell it.

I’m a strong believer that most of the issues those motors “have” are VASTLY overblown by people who do not, and have never owned one.

Does that mean I would buy one? If the price was right, sure. However, I would be in the market for a Yami or Merc…

    You spelled Suzuki wrong.

But my brothers neighbors dad’s friend knows a guy who’s step-uncle’s co-worker’s brother in-law had one and it was complete trash. They are the worst motors ever made!!! whistling

Crazy timing on this subject. Was at a dealer in Webb Lake yesterday having my SxS looked at. I noticed they had 2 brand new Evinrude kickers for sale and commented to the mechanic I was surprised to still see new ones on the floor. He went on a rant. They are a BRP dealer and he said he’s got a 75 Evinrude tiller that he has been looking for some simple part for (can’t remember what he said the part was) for a year with no luck and the motor won’t run without it. I commented I thought BRP would make parts for how ever many years and his response was “some yes; but not all by a long shot”. If there’s any truth to that, it would certainly be worth considering that into the decision making process.

You are spot on, that is what I’ve heard directly from owner of a large dealership.
