Hello, Tossing the idea around to try and fish for some April Coho’s this year. Never been up there with a boat before, and from the times I have been up there with family, I cant imagine parking a boat at the places we stayed. Just want to ask the group where they have stayed in Duluth when having a boat in tow. Looking for a cheap place to stay as we will be on the water most of the time. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Americ Inn Proctor, much safer area than Duluth or Superior and very close to loons foot or Rices.

They usually let us park the boats in the grass and run power out the window. Otherwise can rent a slip from the marina, if so bring an adapter as power on the dock is not 110 so need to have an adapter. Never had an issue the few times we have stayed here with a boat.

Last spring we had stuff stolen out of the box of our truck when we stayed at a Duluth hotel while we were fishing. Thank god they didn’t go in the boat. I think it probably helped that it was covered. When we talked to the police she said it’s sad but it’s a very common occurrence and the chances of getting the stuff back is slim to none. She said the week before a guy had his boat completely stripped. She said he lost $40k worth of stuff.

Most convenient would be barkers island. You can use the public launch a couple blocks from the hotel to drop your boat in and head out.
Cheapest would probably be some hotel in superior close to loons foot.

We stay at Park Point Marina Inn during our winter travels to Duluth, Two Harbors. Very nice stay with winter rates.

I’d stay at the Country inn and suites in Hermantown… Not as much rift raft in that area and I’d be way less worried parking a boat there overnight. Big well lit parking lot. It’s 10-15 min further drive to the lake than staying somewhere downtown but worth it in my opinion and some better early morning food options (i.e. kwik trip) on the way to the lake.
I live about 20 min straight north of downtown out in the sticks. You’re more than welcome to park the boat at my place overnight if you are really worried about parking lot theft. PM me if you’re in need

That country inn and suites is the one our stuff got stolen from. I thought it would be safer there than most like you said but I guess not. Also they have no cameras outside. Nice place and a water slide for the kids though.

We’re 30 minutes to Loon’s, 31 minutes to Rice’s, and 43 to Mickwaderz. 20 acres out in the country with no neighbors and no worries about theft. I’d charge a case of Coors Banquet per night and supply power to plug your boat in
If it’s cold or raining/snowing you could camp or even park in the shop. There’s running water and a toilet too
A couple other options off the top of my head would be renting a cabin at Jay Cooke State Park ($90ish) or at Mont Du Lac ($140-$200).
Before we moved up here I’ve personally stayed at the Fairfield/Lakehead Boat Basin and Barker’s Island multiple times before as well.
Never an issue at either, but plan on spending a $170-$200 a night for lodging. I always slipped my boat at them too (around an additional $30 a night on top of the room cost)
I’ve also glamped at The Buffalo Campground (Buffalo House) before. It was $800 a month to keep our RV Ice Castle there (it sounds ridiculous but the going rate in the area). I only did it one spring (2021) for all of May and June, worked out to be $90-something a night (I went EVERY weekend for two nights-two months straight, a little longer for Memorial). It was a lot of money, but about half the cost of staying right on the lake. I also left my boat there the entire time (issue free other than tree puke) and saved myself a couple thousand towing miles.
