Wife and I are heading to Duluth MN from western CO end of June this year. Anyone have suggestions on safe place to stop for the night on the 35 north of cities. We actually are heading east on 2 for western UPMI for acouple of rock hounding and waterfall days then down to Two Rivers WI for a week of salmon fishing. Not a bad trade for me a few miles longer for acouple of rock hounding days and a week of lake MI fishing thanks for any suggestions

You don’t want to be anywhere near Duluth the weekend of the 21st of June. It is Grandmas Marathon weekend and any room within 40 miles will be booked and pricy. The Carlton exit has a First American Inn and Suite and kitty corner is the Black Bear casino which also has rooms. You will be 13 miles from Duluth right off Interstate 35. There is a nice rock shop up in Beaver Bay which is around 40 miles north of Duluth on Hwy 62.

I can’t think of anywhere I wouldn’t stay on the way.

Other than West Duluth itself (crackheads/drugs) mad

Mille Lacs Casino in Hinkley only puts you an hour or so away from Duluth.

If I was going to stop and eat anywhere in Duluth, I’d stop at Northern Waters Smokehaus. Can’t provide any suggestions on places to stay. Hotels in Duluth are stupid expensive, especially during summer. I’d look for a airBnB/VRBO type place.

Duluth Grill is a good choice as well

You’re welcome to stay at my place, plenty of room to turn around and camp with lots of privacy and no traffic noise. The only shenanigans you have to worry about is the boys bringing you eggs and beer jester

Eggs wow by then they might be higher than beer. Thanks b-man for the offer how far north are you of the cities?
Long time between now and then. I have the wife set up vacation ideas and camping spots for the summer then we cancel the ones we cannot make. Guaranteed I will be making the salmon week maybe not the rockhound time. I am taking her up to the Yellowstone River with a jet boat in august for her to look for Montana agates and petrified wood maybe make a trip after sept 1 for her rocks and my sharpies/ Huns

    Heck yeah Ducks waytogo

We’re close to Jay Cooke State Park just south of Duluth. Heck, if you guys happen to time it over a weekend I’m around we could take you on a Lake Superior trout/salmon trip (if the weather cooperates), or take you rockhounding in a private gravel pit with lots of agates if it’s too windy grin

PM your phone number and we can talk or text.

I have a boundary waters trip with the boys and a Lake Michigan trip that month, but the missus and dog will be home on the weekends I’m gone (you’d be welcome to stay any weekend or mid-week too)

All I ask is you don’t bring her sister from Denver along with you!!!
