The wife and I are going to be coming thru Duluth on Friday on our way to Upper Red. We are staying overnight in Duluth on Friday and are thinking about fishing that afternoon when we arrive. Looking thru some old posts and on maps, it looks like fishing off Park Point may be our best bet since we will be walking out. I haven’t seen much posted about that location in about 2yrs, are we able to simply park in the lot and walkout? in the 6 to 9ft depth and start jigging? Im not looking for anyone’s secrets, just want to make sure there are no issues with parking or ice safety (as long as we don’t get too close to the shipping channel). I assume others have been out there this year

    Thank you

Check Marine General and local bait shops. Make sure your on safe ice.

Good 8 inches of ice on the harbor.

Are you referring to the inside of the point or the lake side? I wouldn’t be trusting any ice this early on the lake side if there even is ice. I’m not even certain the Lake Trout season is open yet if that is your target fish. Somehow January something rings a bell as far as when that season opens again.
The interior of the harbor can have ice but remember that its still the shipping season and those big ships can mess with ice even though they are a long ways away from you.

Big storm, I attached an image of the parking lot you will want to use to fish the harbor. It is just before the large park just before the airport. There is a small boat ramp there. You can walk straight out from where you park. You will see where people pull there shacks down. I like 8′ of water but I always fish it as soon as it freezes and then the crowds come and I leave it alone. You don’t need to be out by the channel though. I like red and orange spoons on the smaller side. A red spoon dead sticked with a fathead does good for me. Send me a message if you have any other questions about lakes up here. Nate

    Thanks everyone

Duluth Fish – yes, this is the area I was looking at. by the time we get up there and out to parking lot, it will probably be mid afternoon so we would stay until after sundown
