dry storage

Does your MX 1825 have DRY storage? Mine does not, the livewell runs over into the two rear boxes and the fronts get wet if it rains very heavy at all.
If yours is dry are there indentations in the foam on the inside of the lids? The foam in mine shows NO sign of touching the top of the compartment.

All true. Same for me. It is one of the few disappointments I have with the boat. Another would be insulated live well/coolers.

Is your MX a 2012 model year? 2013 and newer model years all have extra foam under the lid to form a tight seal, no leaks…

I got the foam under the livewell lids on my 2013.

The dry storage on the other hand. My glove box doesn’t stay dry in a rain even after the seam was sealed. If any water gets in the back of the boat it will creap up the sides and flow to the front.

I just open everything up when it is in the garage now dry or not.

Maybe this is the reason Skeeter went to the ventilation system. All Skeeters must have dry storage problems.

I have a 2014 and it is my only complaint about the boat. I have to open every compartment after every trip if I take on any water or it rains. Is the ventilation system adaptable on the 2014 and older models??

John that would be awesome if it was.

I almost have something to keep things off the floor in the front compartment where i keep extra clothes, rain gear, etc. I also used couple large dry bags which works ok too.

I have yet to own a boat with 100% dry storeage in all conditions. Crestliner, alumacraft, lund ,Ranger, Warrior, skeeter, etc etc are brands that I have owned previously.

Perhaps there is a boat that is, but I honestly haven’t seen it. My 2016 WX2190 was as good as I have had to date. Dry dock is a great tool but if I have been fishing in heavy rain or waves all day, I just open the compartments to dry. I do believe however, all of the builders have made good strides making the storeage better. Perfect? No !

the driest compartments i’ve had were on post-2006 Tuffy boats (i owned 5). before that they’d always been known for “wet storage” and with the redesign their compartment walls were formed from a seamless single piece with the deck, so impossible for water or dampness to get up and in from the bilge area. the lid seals were also made very tight. just really bone dry. in fact, this created a different problem: no way to get water OUT…lesson learned, and they started installing one-way exit valves in the rod locker and storage compartment bottoms.

my Skeeter’s (i’ve owned 2) both have compartments that allow air exchange with the bilge area. when off the water it helps dry out the bilge water that gets trapped, but comes at a price. i haven’t experienced water in the boat high enough to flow into them, but it definitely allows dampness to get on everything if things are wet. it dries quickly in the garage with the compartments open, just don’t forget to open them or mildew will set in. on week-long trips where the boat is in the water any clothing in those compartments gets slightly damp by the third day – an air fan system would really help with that.

I’ll start off with I think Skeeters are a great boat and have thought heavily about getting one but my biggest issue is giving up my completely dry storage.

My 620 Ranger is dry! By dry I mean taking waves over the front, over the side or torrential rains and not having a drop in ANY compartment on the entire boat. Each compartment has an 1.5″ rubber lip that seals against the bottom of the lid. I can pressure wash the inside of my boat without taking the gear out of the compartments.

It’s one of the nicest features I’ve ever had in a boat. Gear gets loaded in the spring and taken out in the Fall!

This is a picture of my old boat but the new one is the same.

Ditto, same for my 618. Never a drop in the storage or rod locker.

to clarify, i’ve never gotten any water in my Skeeter compartments via the lids. waves, pouring rain, and pressure washing, it all stays out. i think most boat brands have this mastered by now with raised lips under the lids and rubber gaskets. i’ve only experienced dampness via the non-sealed interior to the bilge area – all that rain ends up in the bottom of the boat, right? i know the Ranger FS boats come with a ventilation fan system, so betting their interiors are open-air to the bilge as well?

I have to empty my boat after every trip to dry it out. It is pain I would love to figure out a solution. The rod locker will actually fill with water after a few over the bow or heavy rains. Anyone know if I drill a couple holes in the black plasitc if that will fix my problem and allow it to drain to the back?

    can’t hurt…
think that much water is probably sloshing forward from the bilge and getting in through the front open-end of the rod locker?

No Mike, it was from a combination of a few over the bow and a steady heavy rain. The other compartments are soaked thru but they did drain. Gotta try to figure something out because emptying and opening every compartment whenever its wet is getting old.

Only water I ever get in my Ranger is either through the key hole when I don’t seat my Perko Lid latches ring gasket down or If I forget to use the Perko correctly.

The Ranger has a lid gasket that works in conjunction with the lid latch/lock. The latch pulls the lid down securely on the gasket sealing it up. If a ranger has a leak, you simply need to adjust the perko latch to pull the lid down on the gasket tighter. Ideally you need to apply pressure, lean or stand on the lid to compress the gasket for optimal seal.

I know Skeeters are nice boats but the one thing I ALWAYS brag about with my rangers has been waterproof compartments. If they are set up right they are dry. Wet lockers in a Glass boat is not acceptable to me. Surely his should be an easy fix for Skeeter boat design.

Are you kidding me??? That is not acceptable!!

That boat would be on the curb with a sign on it if it can’t be fixed.

No way you should need to spend time after a days fishing emptying your boat.

    That does get old, yes.

FWIW, i think it’s easy to underestimate just how much water “a few over the bow” puts into your bilge…and that things are getting wet from the bottom, not the top. Those compartments are all but open to the bilge, just push your hand down along the seams one time. The MX1825 is a pretty shallow hull, so there’s not much to be done for that other than to try and avoid spearing waves – which can be tough to do when trolling.

I’d check the adjustment on your lid latches as suggested above – it’s easy for them to be too loose and not pull the lid down tightly onto the seal. I have mine set where you have to press down on the lid in order to open them. I’d also consider replacing/upgrading your lid seals just to be sure – it’s easy to add thicker strips as they’re self-adhesive.

And then you can make it easier on yourself to pull gear when you get home by packing everything in waterproof containers. I’d also consider adding another bilge pump for safety and to get it out as quick as possible.
