Last time I had too much to drink was almost 39 years ago. I’ll have 1 or 2 glasses of wine on occasion but it is only a few times a year.
When I was much younger I was the DD most weekends.
I helped the brewery/distillery businesses bottom line from the age of 20 to 30 quite well though. whistling toast

If you don’t want to do dry January you can do sober October instead.

Haven’t had any alcohol since the early 80’s. Pretty sure I got this.

Jack Daniels called in a welfare check on me.
Been dry since Nov 3rd of last year.
2 unopened fifths of it, one unopened fifth of Old Forrester prohibition at 115 proof, and two other gifted bottles of something or other in the pantry.
I see Pepsi is losing money too.
Now if I can get some weight off !

Do you guys remember who even coined the term “favorite wife(FW)” or “favorite girlfriend”?

Hint: it was Brian aka BK. Where is that man? I kinda miss him around here.

I drank enough in my 20’s and 30’s to float a battleship.
Once I hit my 40’s things slowly started to slow down in that department.
Now days in my 50’s I have a beer or two every once in a while.
I think the last beer I had was when I shot my buck on Archery opener.

We don’t drink much alcohol while ice fishing. That is for the icehouse party crowd that uses the fishing trip as a disguise.

That said, plenty of people (mostly groups of guys) have no f’n control over themselves if the girlfriend/wife/mommy aren’t watching them. True for ice fishing, soft water fishing camps, deer camps, golf weekends, a football game.

It is why I kind of chuckle when people start talking about all the fishing pressure that is put on by the wheelhouse gangs. Go talk with these guys and you find they miss most of their bites … if they even have lines in the water.

I will enjoy a beer or two or a class of wine in the evening as we wind down if in a cabin or sleeper house or a small-town cafe after we are done.

I am also always amazed at the guys that drop $200 plus on a Vikings game and miss most of it because they are too drunk or standing in line at some bathroom to pee.

Vikings games are clearly full of the most and the biggest bunch of drunks (and it is like WOW … when you see Packer fans at US Bank) vs. Twins or Wild. Have not been to a Wolves game in 15 years so cannot compare that crowd.

I’m a weekend warrior but between Friday afternoon and Sunday night I tend to put away a LOT. Wife is 1 glass of wine every night type, she wanted to do dry January to shed a few pounds of baby weight. I agreed to do it with her because she really needs someone to help her be accountable with stuff like this.

I’d do whatever she wants if she’d get off Facebook and Instagram all the time!

I just realized today I hadn’t had a drink since the afternoon of New Year’s Eve. Now I might have to try the dry January deal, since I already have a head start.

My brother has been doing this for years, and last year included eliminating a bunch of unhealthy foods. End of January we have a cousins ice fishing weekend that entailed bar food and cocktails, and it did not end well for him. Multiple times. redface mrgreen whistling rotflol So anyway make sure you work your way off whatever you want to do. I have a 4 year old that is up between 530-630 every day, so I don’t need any additional motivation to moderate anymore, but also enjoy a stiff drink or cold beer to unwind occasionally and don’t think that’s changing.

530 to 630 is sleeping way in. Even on those ole long nights.

I stopped drinking once, It was the worst 12 Hrs of my life ! I’m just kidding of course. These days I prefer quality over quantity. At home I probably have 1-2 whisky drinks a week at the most. The only time I drink more than one these days is when I get together with buddies to play cards or just hang out. Yesterday my wife would have thought I was a alcoholic for sure. She came home and I had a empty bottle of win and a empty bottle of champagne laying at my feet while watching TV at noon. She forgot that there was less than a glass of each left over from New years. I wanted to get them out of the fridge and not go to waste. There was a time in my younger days where the point of drinking was to get drunk. Gladly those days are way behind me. These days its simply to enjoy the taste

It’s not about the wake-up time, I’m up around then regardless, it’s the Dad’n part that is the struggle. Parenting hungover is not something I’m interested in for a bunch of reasons.

That’s what got the ball rolling for me as well and after awhile I realized I didn’t miss drinking that much and just sort of quit.

That part is a lifelong struggle. Somedays are easy and others not so easy. Part of what you get when you sign up to be a parent. I know a few Parents who didn’t drink prior to being a parent. but sure do these days lol

One thing that does have me down about dry January is this… we went to see music last night at the Turf Club. I ordered their Bauhaus N/A beer…standard 12 oz can, get ready, brace yourself, NINE BUCKS. I think that’s enough to drive a guy back to drinking when you can get a Hamms tall boy for like $5-6.

Ok, I’ve calmed down, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Parenting is both good for your liver health, and also detrimental at times.

I’ve got a 4.5 year old daughter, a 2 year old daughter, and our final monster on the way in June.

Some expensive case of wine got delivered to the house the other day. When I asked my wife about it, she said she was “stocking up” for the summer after she spent the day with our girls alone and it was too cold to be outside. She looked like someone who had been through a 10 round boxing match

WOW !!! You are a a glutton for pain. Hope the Final monster is a boy. If not you are way outnumbered in your household. That is a ton of female hormones to deal with down the road.

I’m secretly kind of hoping for a third girl. That way, mom can be the eternal “Bad Cop” for a good decade straight as they go through adolesence. In my experience teenage girls rarely get along with their mother when parenting is done correctly.

I will agree with the exception of the first Wild outdoor game at TCF field for the Friday night old timers game. I went to that game with a friend and you could buy tickets to that game for about $5 a ticket. I have never seen so many fall down, throwing up drunks as that at any sporting event before. Well maybe a Blaine HS football game. The next night for the real game the fans were back to the normal crowd you would see at a wild game.

I am also always amazed at the guys that drop $200 plus on a Vikings game and miss most of it because they are too drunk or standing in line at some bathroom to pee.
