I was taught when making a turn, you are to turn into the closest adjacent lane. I see people turning onto a 4 lane road and crossing over all lanes. This particularly bothers me when I’m making a right turn and the opposing person is making a left turn and crosses over all the lanes, almost hits me, then gives me the finger. Even though they have a green turn arrow that does not give them the right away to the entire road.
    Or am I wrong?

If they have the green arrow – yes they have right of way.

I think the law reads that you must yield to anyone already legally on the roadway.

If he crosses several lanes as I’m imagining, he is not legally in the roadway.

But, more importantly, we all need to drive defensively, not passive-aggressive, like most Midwesterners.

Then the rules have changed since I took my driving test back in “76”

Don’t think so. You would be making a right turn on a red light. You need to yield to all traffic.

You also need to turn into the first available lane.

I hate it when those darn green arrow turners pull out in front of me when I’m trying to go left on red! How dare they.

Very fast way to fail your drivers test. I know two people that failed in the 70’s for this exact reason.

The green arrow gives them the right of way but they will fail if they do not pull into the nearest lane but maybe that has changed since the 70’s…

Everyone just needs to stay out of my way. Period.

If you don’t, I’ll act like I don’t see you and block you out. It’s the Minnesota way!

The little map holds up unless those making the left turn are doing so with a green arrow and there are TWO left turn lanes. Opposing traffic has to yield in this instance. In all other cases those crossing a lane of traffic to turn must turn into the lane closest to the center if there is more than one lane. Making a right turn, you don’t cross a lane of traffic and have the right of way as long as you turn into the lane closest to your turn…the outside lane should there be two or more lanes.

Fuggin dump truck merged over on me twice within a mile today. Both times, my front bumper was even with his rear wheels and he just wedged in on me.

My biggest pet peeve are the folks who speed up in the passing lane then slow down just enough so I can’t pass them even though my set cruising speed for the last 30 miles was too fast for them.

It is amazing how predictable this phenomenon is and I have no way to explain it…

I like the ones who ‘have’ to get in front of you going into a parking lot and then I still see the driving through the lot trying to find that spot that saves them 20′ of walking while I’m already parked and going in the door.

    Right Turn
At many intersections, you may make a right turn while the traffic light
is red. Make sure you are in the correct lane and come to a complete
stop. “No Turn on Red” signs are posted where these turns are not
allowed. Check traffic in all directions to make sure your path is clear.
Watch for oncoming cars making left turns in front of you. Sometimes
oncoming traffic will have a green arrow before your light turns green.

My two biggest pet peeves on the road:
1: Cars flying by my in the passing lane, then cutting in front of me quickly to catch an off-ramp & forcing me to tap the brakes. Like it would have killed them to wait 1 or 2 secs more to catch that off-ramp behind me.

2: When I’m entering a 2-lane highway via an on-ramp, (especially with the boat or wood trailer) and the car from a ways back speeds up to cut me off and get in front of me. And to make it worse, many times they could have just moved over into the left lane. (usually a woman I might add) I do realize they have the right of way, but that doesn’t mean they need to speed up just to exercise that right.

I was pulled over last year in MO for using the shoulder to make a right turn on hwy 61. The shoulder was 20 ft wide but not to be driven on. This was an eye opener to me, around here its just common courtesy to get the hell out of the way of flowing traffic. The cop agreed with that argument and let me off with a warning

Maybe your headlights could use a little adjustment?
