Drotto Boat Latch – Fiberglass boats

I recently purchased one of these. It came with a roller setup meant for use on heavier fiber glass boats. Haven’t installed it yet. Looked at the company video and noticed the roller rides a few inches higher than than the existing roller. Anybody had any problems with this higher roller position causing the roller to contact the bow mount motor as the boat comes off the trailer? Sure looks like a possibility to me.

I have heard nothing but great things about the owners at Drotto. I suggest a phone call to them would get you set-up correctly.

    Yes
I have a Drotto and a fiberglass boat. And yes, while slipping the boat off it does clip the front edge of the trolling motor.
I have made a couple tweeks to the roller placement and it has helped. Doesn’t do it all the time now but every once in awhile it does clip it. You need to find the sweet spot as far as depth/how far you back your trailer down into the water to avoid/minimize this issue.

Thanks guys. I hope while I’m trying to find that sweet spot I don’t damage the troller.

Have heard some complaints by those that cannot move there winch stand as it moves the boat back and the transom does not sit on the pads or rollers instead it hangs over which is not a good situation. Some have wrecked there trolling motors on ramps that are very steep as the boat comes in the bow is below the Drotto.

I’ve got a Drotto on a 206 Triton. It is the one with the roller on front. Dealership had it on the boat when I bought it. I would not have put it on if it wasn’t already part of the package. After 1 full year of using it, I will never own another boat without one. Once you use it a few times and figure out the sweet spots for loading and unloading, it is second nature. Being able to load without your partner ever leaving the truck, or you leaving the steering wheel makes it incredibly quick. I have no scratches from the latch on my boat, this is with 50-60 launch load sequences in the books.
