cant help you with a recommendation other than dont use the dern thing to watch someone fishing in a boat.
had that happen to me three years ago near Bemidji and I sure wish I had a boom stick with me to shoot it down, dang that was annoying!!
I should of launched a daredevil on twenty pound test braid at it and brought it down that way,why on earth its illegal to do that verses it being legal to fly the thing within twenty feet of someone is beyond me.
I flew R/C planes and helicopters for almost forty years and had to follow rules as well as carry insurance on my stuff, there should be at least those laws and more on drones imo.

not doubting you Mike,I called the CO in Bemidji and told him what I would of liked to do but was told to call them at the tip line instead of shooting it down first and trust me I had my,er,uh,legally carried equalizer with me.
at that time I was told it was illegal to shoot it down or harass the operator in anyway and to turn it in.
I was also told that CO’s in the field were using them to check on anglers which I doubt that any CO in Mn is that chickensh!t nor do I believe that the budget is that tight that they cant afford a boat to check anglers with,if they are they can use mine seeing as how I dont get out often enough as it is.
if the laws have changed on them since 2016 I would like to know about it as I could use some wing shooting practice anyway.
cdbill, please forgive me for derailing your thread with my rant.
as far as drones go,many great ones out there but I cannot give you an idea of which one to own as I have never flown one.
I do know that many out there will come home when signal is lost or batteries are getting weak, that much I did study.
however, they are not perfect,a farmer/neighbor of mine bought one with flir capabilities to check out his fields with, that unit cost over seven grand and somehow managed to lose it the first day out, still havent found it.
Sorry IB1. I should of said that I agree with you. If I downed a drone and the owner wasn’t reasonable, I’d take my chances that he was in the wrong by harassment of a fisherman is all.
DJI has been consistent for us
DJI Mavik and Mavik Pro have been setting the standard for drones (especially in the filming world) but if you don’t need as high def or special a camera on it the DJI Spark is a nice flying drone as well. And cheaper!
There are new FAA rules concerning RC flying anything, anything over .5 lbs you are suppose to register your name number pay a one time tax. This information is suppose to be visible on the aircraft, drone. Law states 400 foot ceiling, no flying within 5 miles of any airstrip unless you contact the airstrip, airport and get permissions.
That being said what are you wanting to do with the drone. If you are wanting to learn to fly FPV ( first person view )one and take decent photos without all the frills any where from $150 to as said the sky is the limit.
I fly RC planes and quadcopters ( drones ), FPV and cameras can be added to all of them.
Scroll down this page and enter your city/state to find a local RC club. https://www.modelaircraft.org
The FAA is also wanting Remote Drone ID capability except for registered AMA flying sites.
Weighing under 250 grams, Mavic Mini doesn’t require a license.
This little guy does everything I want it too which is just take some photos and short video.
Now it’s just pulling the trigger.
I got the Parrot bebop a couple years ago and it’s easy as heck to fly and takes good pics. I paid like $250 for it I think.

Oh man, didn’t even know this one existed….That looks like the ticket. You might have me keeping secrets from the FW again……
