    Hi all,
First time heading to Lake Vermilion, I started thinking about the distance and drive time from Red Wing. I’ll be towing my boat. Can anyone give me an idea of a realistic drive time to get there? Anything I should watch out for on 35? I drive at the speed limit or just slightly over. I’m not looking for how fast it can be done, I’m looking for safe, actual time.
I’ll be stopping a few times for quick breaks, etc…

    Anyone have input?
    Thanks,
    Don

I live in north branch and I’m 3.5 hours from tower, the north east side of the lake. Your 1.5 hours south of me. So your looking at a good 5 hour drive or ball park. Your route may vary so probably safe to call it 4.5 hrs

Interstate 35 does have some construction going on in Forest lake at the 35E and 35W split and also in Pine City. A lot will depend on what time you are going to be traveling. I don’t know much about whats going on in Forest Lake but the construction in Pine City really isn’t too bad as long as you’re not driving thru at rush hour. According to Google Maps it will take you about 4 hrs & 20 minutes from Red Wing to the lake.

I live north of forest lake and traveling north is quick and no delays but coming back south is what is slow

It takes us about 4 hours on average to drive from Rosemount to Daisy Bay. This includes a stop or two for food/gas. If you are headed to the north side of the lake it will take slightly longer. Pine City construction has been the only issue this summer, but unless you hit it at peak time it shouldn’t be an issue. Enjoy the lake, fish are biting and the fall colors are showing up.

We made it from Burnsville to the west end of Big Bay in 2 hours 40 minutes once, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that.

Slab-hunter, if you don’t already have Google maps on your phone I highly suggest it.

It will give you real-time traffic and updates on changing conditions.

It’s scary accurate, and will also alert you if something changes while you’re on the road. It will then find the fastest route around something that pops up (traffic, car accident, closed road, etc)

Once you clear the Pine City construction it’s clear sailing. Once the leaf viewing ends on the North Shore there won’t be any traffic to worry about on I-35.

Whatever you do, don’t speed around Evelyth or Cook. Notorious speed traps there. I’ve been pulled over doing 5 over. Guy gave me a warning, but still thought it wasn’t real cool. Seen lots of other motorists pulled over in these spots in my travels to/from our lake place.
