When they are aggressive, down is better for me. Up stream very slow when they are more neutral. My theory is by going up, the bait sits in front of them longer to entice them. Maybe just a confidence thing????
When I start a day of dragging I will go both ways over a spot to see if there is a pattern. If so, then I just go that way and motor back to the start of each drift. If up and down are equal on bites then I just keep going back and forth through the pass. You can always adjust later if one way seems to be producing more bites throughout the day.
Thanks, I have had bad luck with dragging thru clam beds and paint chipping off my Precision jigs. They claim to be chip proof.
My grandfather has been dragging a split shot and hook/crawler since the 1960’s, no need to drag jigs if you dont have to, especially in snaggy situations.

Dragging jigs for summer walleye in river situations, do most guys have more success drifting downstream or trolling upstream?
