4 years ago in April I was sitting on a patio in fort Myers with my wife sister and brother-in-law. I don’t remember how it happened, bit I believe I overheard Minnesota in a conversation 2 gentleman were having at the table next to us.
I glanced over and it took about 2 seconds to recognize one of the men was Doug Woog. I said his name to be sure and they greeted us. We spent about 15-30 minutes talking to them and they didn’t seem to mind at all. In fact I could tell the other guy was happy to see him getting recognition and being able to talk a little about him and the gophers.
I wasn’t aware of the Parkinson’s before meeting him, but it became apparent when we talked to him. Not that he was really bad, but you knew by some of his comments.
We actually tried excusing ourselves when their lunch came but they asked us to stay and that it was no bother.
I Am grateful for the time we spent talking to him about his coaching. I hope we brought a little happiness to him as well.
It’s sad to hear, but I am sure he is in a better place now. Thanks for talking to us that day coach.
