Double Axle Towing Question?

I recently changed towing vehicles for my MX2025 and I am curious if there is an easy way to figure out what the optimal height of my hitch should be for towing a double axle trailer? Is there an easy measurement or way to determine this without measuring tongue weight?

If not what is the best way to figure out how much weight you are putting on the hitch?

To do this with any accuracy, you really need a truck scale where you can get just the tongue of the trailer over the scale. Set the tongue jack foot or wheel on the scale and get the reading.

The boat dealer should have set this up correctly when you bought your boat. The trailer manufacturer will have a configuration spec for recommended tongue weight and the dealer should have adjusted the trailer/boat so it is within this spec.

As far as hitch height, with the boat on the hitch, I’m looking to run so the trailer is running level to slightly nose up if you look at the tongue beam.

FYI, you should never tow a trailer nose up, always have it nose down. Reason, when the brakes are applied hard and the trailer is nose up it will take weight off the rear of the tow vehicle making it more likely to jacknife.

Wouldn’t the rotation of the tires, suddenly being slowed/stopped, naturally force the forward/tongue in a downward motion onto the hitch, much like the front of your vehicle will dip in braking ? In reverse the opposite would be true… lifting the front. crazy

You smash the brakes nose of vehicle drops . trailer pushes up against vehicle lifts vehicle more rear tires loose traction no control in rear?

I measured rear frame rail and front frame rail. Balanced with the tounge slightly lower than the rear. Pulls real nice that way.
