yea i’d question iffin you were into the grain belt if you seen a wren already!!!!
i would suspect they may be finches!!!!
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22460February 3, 2022 at 2:05 pm #2096410I see lots of blue jays here all winter long. I did hear a Robin a couple weeks ago and that was when we had the other cold stretch. I was like dude WTF are you doing here?
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22460February 3, 2022 at 2:06 pm #2096411Wrens? I think you’re mistaken.
LOL, mine didnt show up last year until like July.

I see robins all winter long feasting on crabapples!

Interesting. The last time I actually saw one in the winter I was in HS and we were staying in a TC hotel for a hockey tourney. It was sitting in the courtyard.
February 3, 2022 at 2:12 pm #2096416I’ve had robins at my property all winter long too. It seemed very odd.
February 3, 2022 at 2:19 pm #2096418I’ve had Blue Jays all winter. The are cool looking but mean bird. They do not play nice with others. I get a kick out of them fighting with the tree rats at my corn feeder. Seems like with ducks and Geese there are more and more Robbins staying all winter long. Only seen a few this winter. Seems like I saw more of them last winter. The Yellow finches missed me altogether last fall. The prior year they ate a ton of food at my feeders in the fall.
February 3, 2022 at 2:21 pm #2096420Blue Jays by me are greedy little bass turds. I grew about 125-150 sunflowers for feeding over the winter. Before I had a chance to cut them in early October, the blue jays had them 100% eaten.
Btw – anyone see how much quality bird seed went up in price??? If it wasn’t for being my dads last pleasure in life to see all the birds, there wouldn’t be a chance in hell I would pay this much
February 3, 2022 at 2:33 pm #2096428Ya I got sticker shock the last time I loaded up on corn and bird food. I told my wife at this rate those Deer and birds are going to need to go on a diet.
I don’t mind feeding some deer but I think the locals have told all their friends about me house. A few nights ago I looked out there and there was 10+. Sadly I only saw my big Buck that I’ve watched grow the last 4 years 1 time this year. He was injured and looked to have a broken or badly injured front leg. I have not seen him since. I think the injury may have done him in. No trail camera out there this year so he may still be around and I just have not seen him. Hope he survived. Its been cool watching him grow. I was interested to see if he still had more growth next year or if he had maxed out.February 3, 2022 at 4:30 pm #2096464Blue Jays by me are greedy little
We have a few at our place and even the squirrels are afraid of them lately..

They’re smart too. In the morning d morning when they come to the feeders, there is usually 8 to 10. Two holes on the feeder and knock all the seed out. The rest are on the ground for the feast

But yeah, I’d question the wren part…
February 4, 2022 at 7:41 am #2096566Two weeks ago standing outside with the pooch, two Morning Doves landed in the neighbors tree. First time I have seen them in the winter.

Do you have a farm feed store by where you live? The one by my house has bird seed way cheaper than normal store. Not in a pretty bag though. I laugh when im at FF and people have bags of “deer corn” in their carts for like $18 a bag. Farm store like $7 cause its gotta cow on the bag and not a deer.
February 4, 2022 at 8:13 am #2096569I’m going with a nuthatch.
I had a heated bird bath in the front yard. Only saw a deer there this year but in the past, I’ve seen bluebirds there in Jan/Feb.
I was told by the bird guy on WCCO that it was impossible…until I sent him a photo. I’m told there are many in the St. Croix River Valley.
February 4, 2022 at 8:17 am #2096571On a side note, Dad and I would frequently comment on seeing robins early in the year thinking that it was a sign that spring (and fly fishing) would be early that year. This was well before we would spot them infrequently all year.
Didn’t take long to find out that the only thing it meant was that those robins were stupid.

LMAO
steelslinger71Posts: 165February 4, 2022 at 11:28 am #2096679That is pretty funny BK. Actually the bird experts say the robins, doves, bluebirds, ect. that hang all winter are mostly males that do so to be the first to claim the best territories to attract females when they return in the spring.Just shows the length someone or something will go to to get a little.

Well, we’re in Texas for the winter and I’m getting plenty.

Never bought in retail store. Get 50 gallon drums filled at our co-op. Price has easily doubled. I did see little 25# bags at Walmart for 25 to 35 bucks and it’s mostly crap filler seed
I don’t know non game birds that well. Have tons of these guys around here

Tufted Titmouse I think. If you are using Chrome as your browser, if you right click on an image you can search Google. Tufted Titmouse was my first guess and when I searched for image it said the same thing.

so does mine now!!😂 Was on my laptop earlier.
Musky .. thought that’s what that was but my mind went blank trying to remember the name.
February 4, 2022 at 2:39 pm #2096790Ya so, my wren might be a Eagle or Hawk or maybe one of those titty things. I’m not sure.
