Dont forget to lock your doors

Last night before going to bed the better half and I were outside with the dogs and I was asked why I forgot to change the patio bulb, I of course went and got my headlamp out of my truck and replaced the burnt out bulb asap. I forgot to lock my truck.

This morning when I woke up and went to go to work, of course, my vehicle had been gone through.

With the warm weather and school being out there is a lot more mischief out and about. I had over $1k in fishing tackle in the back, they didn’t take any of that so thank god they weren’t “avid outdoors-men”. Only items lost were a broken iPhone and of course all my change.

Since I always lock my vehicles or park them in the garage I will be installing cameras just to see how often ppl are in my driveway at night checking handles.

Glad to hear about the tackle.

We are on the outskirts of whats north mpls, lots of that crap happening last few years. Petty theft. Had the change taken out of my truck as well last summer. Just glad they didn’t grab any of my sweet homemade late 90s rap mix CDs.

Bummer! But good that they didn’t take the tackle. I’ve been hearing a lot about this in the South St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights areas. It’s disappointing to hear and you’ve got to wonder if the recent increase has to do with kids being out of school, like you said. People forget to lock their car doors and wake up to their stuff rummaged through and some things missing. It’s just good practice to always lock up, and hope the hoodlums get caught and grow up.

A few summers ago there was a bunch of thefts from people’s lawns right as school was out. Several ornaments, bird feeders, anything that wasn’t secured down went missing throughout the neighborhood. It was tempting to spend a few nights on the roof with a paintball gun. devil

Good tip. I’ve had cameras at my place for the last year or two. All I’ve seen is kids cutting the corner through the yard on bikes and the occasional bug flying past the camera.

I’ve never had my vehicles gone through but my roommate in college had his truck stolen from our driveway. We lived quite a ways outside town and being the farmer he was, he left his keys under his front seat. The truck ran out of gas about 25 miles away and they left it there…but not before shooting it with a shotgun and breaking the windows out…

I’m glad they didn’t get your homemade classics either nhamm! I live in Coon Rapids and every year it just seems to get a little bit worse (still not even close to the inner city). We have had a few incidents in the neighborhood where detectives have stopped by asking about cameras so it will be nice to be able to provide them with footage.

I’ve been leaving my doors unlocked for years waiting for someone to steal my car but no takers yet.

Full disclosure when I was a kid we called it car shopping and the white sedan parked behind my house on the way to the bus stop always had change and marboro light 100’s. Times haven’t changed at least the way I see it

Lonsdale, Farmington, Newport, Prior lake… are just some of the places over the years where this has happened to my roommates but not me since I locked my doors. This stuff happens every year everywhere throughout the summer. I know it suck that we live in a society where we need to lock our doors but you have to.

This is a constant problem in South Mpls – people driving through the alleys looking for open garage doors and such. We had our side garage door kicked in a couple years ago but it was blocked by the snowblower so they didn’t get in the garage.

We lived in the Longfellow neighborhood about 10 years ago and someone broke in through our backdoor one evening when we were out. Didn’t steal anything but went through the house and dumped drawers and created a huge mess. Cops said it was probably a crime of opportunity and they were looking for cash and prescription drugs. That was a pretty unnerving experience. Since then I’ve bought more guns and got a huge and menacing dog.

It’s not only a problem in your neighborhood. I’m in north branch and it happened to us last week. My ice fishing truck sits behind our garage and some one got in to it and took my change but they didn’t bother to grab my binoculars from the glove box but threw them on the floor. Obviously kids because those binos are expensive. Then they went through my work truck and took my tablet out of it. So much for being trust worthy. They are lucky both the German shepherds didn’t hear them

Easily taken care of by thieves if they wanted to. Buddys parents Northside have two large pitbull mixes that got feed hotdogs until they couldn’t move. Come home to your house being ripped apart and your dogs laying on the ground dying from overeating.

I sure would hope that wouldn’t happen. They have been trained in home defense because I work all sorts of crazy shifts so they keep the home safe for my wife and 2 kids. And I tell you if there is a unwanted person near the kids the dogs don’t like that at all. I’ll have to have some one try a hot dog behind the fence trick ha ha and I sure hope that at least one of them doesn’t go for it

Yeah mine is more so of an alarm. He has a really mean bark but wouldn’t harm a fly. Our Pomeranian is his boss…. That is terrible news about your buddies dogs.

I have a bicycle in front of my house. Been there since I moved almost 3 years ago.

That same bicycle was in front of my place in owatonna for two years also, except on a lock.

When in owatonna It got a flat tire at one point. I took lock off and used for something else for a week. Bike was stolen in that time. As noted, one tire was flat. So…I look down the street figuring they didn’t get far and there it lay, 3 houses down. Dumb criminals. Lol

Bike now stays at my house unlocked for almost 3 years. Hasn’t moved an inch. Guess i am around some good peeps here!!!

It’s not just a metro thing. I’m NW of St Cloud aways, population 400. Get woke up by the sheriff once or twice a year between midnight n 5 am. Tells you there was trouble that night and to look your property over. Or you just notice when you get out for work that things have been gone through.

Ha ha we also have a chiuaua and he us the boss in our house as well. The shepherds are cuddlers to us inside the house but very protective until we hive a command out side the house in our yard or if some one comes over. I guess I just hope that people are smart enough to hear barking and think twice. Thieves suck. But we were all dumb kids at one point and peer pressure was a thing in those days.

I had my work truck gone through when i lived down in Brooklyn Park. They didn’t take the change or the cash that was in the center council. Or the nice pair of sunglasses sitting on the dash. All they took was a Keith Urban cd and maybe a few others that I haven’t seemed to miss so far. That same night my neighbor had 2 of his tires slashed as well.
I’ll take the loss of a couple cd’s over getting my tires slashed any day!

I’m out in the country so we do trail cams on the property and the neighbors are all very attentive. If you don’t belong, we see you & got you on multiple cameras. I always say “Breaking into my house is easy. It’s only wood, glass & steel keeping anyone out….but good luck getting out!”. My dog is a bit protective (& senile as heck). You couldn’t pay me to live in town!

My dog would eat those dogs, I wish he was that friendly. We literally have to put him away when family comes to visit as he is too protective. Wasn’t that way until about the time I was disabled and he only got worse after my wife got cancer. Wonder if that is coincidence or ? Did he sense our ill health and get super protective as a result? He’s a big baby around the wife and I but we can’t even have a package dropped by the door without him trying to get thru the door, after the UPS man.

Idk Thomas, that sounds like a pycho dog to me, not a protective one. To each their own.

My dogs are the same way, but I’d much rather have a dog that is too socialized, than have a dog that wants to bite every person it sees.

If someone broke into my house my dog would come charging at him with his ball in him mouth wanting to play. The only luck I would have is if the robber slipped on his ball when he spits it towards him. My other dog just hides in terror every day because of my son. Once mom comes home he will show up.

I think my dogs would would start wrestling each other for who gets the attention of the robber, then when he proceeds to raid the house, the dogs (still wrestling) would plow through him and blow out his ACL.

My youngest could potentially damage a would be robbers ear drum with her
let’s-play bark? My oldest could worry a potential robber with her looks-like-I’m dead napping?
