Have not fished ML much. Did some research and forced myself to fish off-shore structure. We found some fish but the wind really picked up-Weather people said 5-10mph, it was a lot windier than that. My boat is a wide 16′ with a 50 Yami. We were safe because my buddy was careful and patient out there, took us over an hour to get back. From now on I will always fish from the side the wind is coming from, at least in my boat.

Generally the wind predictions don’t include gusts FYI. That’s the sustained speed.

I was up Thursday through Saturday, and fishing was excellent.

Thursday was a perfect day, and I had a couple buddies along. A bunch of nice smallmouth, with a 22 1/2 the biggest. Monster.

Friday was the windiest day I’ve been out in. My trolling motor was running at a 6-8 out of 10 to hold a spot. After I ran out of juice, about noon, I backtrolled for the rest of the day. Lots of good fish, but fishing alone, boat control was a major challenge. There wasn’t anyone else at the landing, so that’s something.

Yesterday, Saturday, was amazing. Big fish, bass and walleye both, and not as many boats as you’d expect. At least, not many boats that stuck around long enough to figure out the bite.

In short, if you can get to the lake, do it.

We did get some smbs and 1 walter-Think we found a small spot with both but we could not fish it well because of the wind. think i lost 2 eyes because I am used to setting the hook right away which does not work well with a 6” sucker with one hook in the beak. We tried a bunch of artificials but they only wanted the minnow. Launched out of Father Hennipen-nice park and was sheltered.

You can usually double the wind speed on Mille lacs.

I usually add 10 mph to the top wind prediction and take the direction as a best guess. But this is good advice too, I’ve had it go the other way but you just never know on the big pond.

If a person wanted to fish the lake, can a person keep any fish to take home?

I only hear of walleye, bass and muskies from this lake. Is there anything a person can keep too eat? I know these are all good too eat. Just wondering if legal.

We come through the area every year a couple times. With all the negative stuff we here about keeping fish we never stop.

You can keep everything including walleye, but they all have fairly particular slots. If you are Looking for meat, northerns would probably be your best bet. But there’s plenty of panfish/crappie without as strict of rules too.
