I talked to several people/groups who were coming back from charters when we were there a few years ago. Same basic thing as what ZP said. Mahi and a few other mixed species. Some guys I talked to at length that did a full day charter got quite a few fish, but they had a puking-rough ride starting at about noon. It sounds like they went off shore pretty far.
The DR is a terrific place, the people were really nice. I like to talk to the bartenders and other resort workers. The folks down there really love their baseball and are very proud of the DR players who have made it to the big leagues.
One thing I was disappointed in. If you’re a cigar guy, the surprising thing to me was that it’s hard to get DR cigars in the DR and their expensive as all getout. What the… Well, as it was explained to me finally, the cigar factories are in an export zone. To protect the margins of the overseas distributors, they can’t be brought into the DR without paying a hefty tariff and taxes. So much for my fantasy of bringing back a few boxes of Fuente.
