Well……..Looks like Cooper has bought himself some time. He responded to the very last medication we were going to try. So the Vet put him on another med that’s stronger and cheaper. So we’ll try this and see what happens for a while. Jon at Town and Country Vetranary clinic in Hastings is the bomb! He’s trying everything possible and keeping it to the least $$ possible.

    Thats great news!

My inlaws were over for Thanksgiving and brought their little lap dog along. Last year at this time she couldn’t walk, was urinating all over, and wasn’t responding to any medication. I think it was a calcium build up around her hip. The appointment was set for her to be put down. That day my wife went to say her goodbyes and the dog got all excited and started running around. They decided to put it off and see if this was just something short term or if she was really getting better. Since then she has been the same dog she always was. The vet couldn’t explain how everything healed up, but she is good to go now.

My dog is 7 now and hopefully has many great years ahead of her, but if she needed to put down I agree with others that I owe it to her to be there.

I just put my pup down last weekend. I made the decision to hold her while she was injected. I wanted her last memory to be that I was there for her. It’s very tough and it made me cry like a baby but I wouldn’t do it any differently. GodBless you buddy…..I know what you’re going through!!

And the amazing thing about the whole process was once injected how fast it was… She was just so tired and she was just able to go to sleep.

I feel that you owe your buddy at least that much to be there for them when the time comes. It tore me up bad, but I know that the last thing he saw was me holding his head.

I had wanted to do the shot myself and bring him to a spot we had hunted, have a few minutes to ourselves, and then do it, but could not find a Vet willing to let me have the drugs.

Good luck, I hope he continues to do well.

Had to put my weimaraner of 12.5 years down this morning. Two large tumors that had finally caused enough havoc that something had to be done. As tears are rolling down my cheeks now, I couldn’t imagine living the rest of my life knowing I wasn’t with my companion when he needed me most. It’s probably one the hardest things I’ve done in my life so far but I won’t ever regret it.

Thanks again. Over the last week the wife has posted some photos from about 1-2 years ago of him on Facebook for my family out east and it’s reinforced that I did the right thing for him. Just looking at how he was in so much better health/condition then from the last six months. That might help your decision if you ever have to come to that.
