Has anyone tried this brand of dog food? I have heard really good things about it, and when it comes time to take the pup off of puppy food might switch to it. What others would you recommend?

I have tried it and it seems to be a good dog food I have always fed my bird dogs nutriSource Super Performance or just the normal Performance blend. But I think the two brands are pretty close either one would be a great switch.

I have heard good things of Native also and considered that food when choosing. I ended up going with Nutrisource (performance for off-season and super performance on-season) for about a year. The only downfall for nutrisource was my dog was not keen on it (very muddy droppings, too rich maybe?).

I switched to Call of the Wild and have had super luck all the way around ever since. Just another one to consider.

Just wondering what kind of dog you have? I haven’t seen that issue with my shorthair.

Hey John – I have a Viszla Pointer. I am not sure why he never “hardened” up on the Nutrisource as his breeder uses it on some of her kennel dogs and loves it (She has won two yearly supplies of it) from show competitions. It is also very available where I am located and made in MN!

Just my dog I guess. I even cut him back by 1 cup daily and he maintained his weight (generally a good thing). Nothing against the food, and the energy, and shiny coat and skin was always there.

Some think that the more protein the better per serving, but I have heard multiple times now that many dogs are susceptible to “too much” protein in one serving and my guess is that this was my situation.

I know when I tried to be a muscle head in college I had the same problem!

Here is a another great resource for researching dog foods. web page

You may have seen this topic previously. Avoid Corn, too much grains, too much protein(40g). Look for high protein (25-35g), use of real meats, complex carbs not from grains, Omega-3’s, vit/min supplements, and as little of filler as possible, as key ingredients.

Thanks for all of the info. I was doing some research, and was wondering where do you get the Nutrisource brand around here? Closest I could find on the dog food advisor site was over 200 mile away.
