Training for Hard Mouth Puppy

Hey guys,

I’ve got a question that some of you may be able to help me with. My 6 month Shorthair is just finishing up his 2 week intro to birds program. On a positive note, he’s got a great drive to him and has been sticking some really nice points from what i’ve been told.

On the down side, he thinks birds and tends to give them the death shake and feather pluck routine before brining them back.

My question is, does anyone reccommend any at home training methods that I can work on to try and cure his hard-mouth?

Have him carry around and fetch a wood handles cleaning brushwith firmer bristles. Atleast its suggested in my gun dog training book.

I too have read a stiff bristle brush will cause enough irritation to soften the mouth.
