My Yellow Lab Mattie was just diagnosed with Lymes disease about a week or so ago, she is on some antibiotic that starts with the letter “d” and I cannot pronounce. Since she has been on those meds she has really broke out into hives whenever she gets excited, like when I get home or kids wanna play, or go for a walk. Has anyone had a dog that has had lymes disease? Anyone’s dog ever have hives?

    thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear that. I have not done it myself, but have heard of guys giving their dog Benadryl (sp) for the hives. May be worth a shot.

    Good Luck.

My dog, Gunner (a pug/beagle cross) had lyme’s last year, despite being vaccinated. I don’t remember what antibiotic he was on, but he never had hives. And he is as active as any dog.

she is as energetic as any 5 year old yellow lab, so its not slowing her down at all. I guess I am just concerned. I can’t find any online vet help without paying money, so I thought I would turn to IDO.

My dog got it a couple years ago. She never showed any symptoms (and still doesn’t), but the vet said she would probably test positive for a few years, even after he put her on the pills. I think the pills lasted about a month. During about the second week she got a blotchy rash on the insides or her hind legs. Called the vet and he told me to give her half a benedryl…. The benedryl made her sluggish, but after a couple days the rash was gone and she was bouncing off the walls.
I would still say to call your vet, but the benedryl worked for me.

Have had a few dogs get, along with myself. Never had one get a rash, but I suppose it could happen. The med the vet gave is called doxycycline. I keep it on hand just in case. The benadryl does work find for hives. Which is an antihistamine. Hives is a minor anaphalactic reaction. So the 2 go hand in hand.

Sorry about the spelling. It is early

I’d try the benadryl, just be sure it’s straight up diphenhydramine and not a combination product.

It’ll make your dog sleepy, too.
