Not looking for name ideas just looking for opinions on changing the name of a 10mo old pup and any problems we might have.

The background of this question comes because my wife and I are driving to Ohio this weekend to pick up a Springer/pointer mix female that found through here.

    English Springer Rescue America

We have had 2 Springer’s in our past and lost the last one (Aspen,14yr old) in October. And my wife needs to hear the pitter patter of paws running in the house and I need to get a new hunting/fishing buddy. Plus the my backyard only has squirrel and rabbit tracks through it.

Any way the existing name of the dog is not acceptable by the FW and I’m not too keen on it also.

Does anyone see any potential problems with changing the dogs name at the age of 10mo ??

    Thanks in advance

MY last Brittney Brandy was named Princess by the breeder. I got her as a started dog at about 11 months and called her Brandy no problems after a couple days. The breeder/trainer a couple years later called her princess and she didn’t respond at all.
    I would not be concerned.

Shouldn’t be a problem. Just be consistent. I don’t really think that dogs “know” their names in the sense that people do. It’s more of a command that they learn to respond to. So, use it and reinforce it often, and the dog should pick up on the new name in no time.

Should not be a problem at all. Even in an old dog. We got one almost 2 yrs ago. He had 2 names in 4 months given to him. He was a bit confused I think, but we stuck with the last one, and he figured it out.

My own personal name was much like Cory’s, and Garvi. Except mine was changed after getting married. Everytime I hear A**H***, I respond.
