Reccomendations for muscle loss in older dogs

  • #204136

    Hey Guys,

I have a 15 year old German Shorthair that has been experiencing some muscle loss in his hips. It appears to be hindering his movement just a little, but other than that he appears to be in great shape.

Does anyone know of any supplements that may help build a muscle mass in older dogs, or help with joint/muscle movement???

I’ve already switched him to a dog food with glusamine condroitin last year, and it appears to help a little, but i’m looking for other options as well.

    Thanks in advance!

We give Rufus a dosage of Gluscoamine Chondroitin MSM( a pill) every day! It helps him tremendously for joint comfort. It is also suppose to renew catilage and lubricate his joints. Our vet reccomended it and there is a huge difference from when he is on or off. He has been on it for about a year now!

Ive noticed a considerable difference when we placed him on Glusamine Condroitin last year.

I think the Glusamine Condroitin helps with any pain or discomfort he may have normally experienced, but it still doesn’t help him a whole lot when it comes to getting around as well as he used to. He’s getting old, and some muscle loss at that age in inveitable im assuming.

Just looking for a couple options to keep him in as good a shape as possible.

So where do you get Glusamine Condroitin. I have a 14yr springer that could use a little juice in her getty up, or at least relive some of the pain she is in.

They have it for Dogs but also for Humans. The dosage is different. Ask your vet what they reccomend for Dosage. Rufus (75 lbs) is using the Human pill. Stacie just picks it up at the Pharmacy area in Target, etc. The exact brand Rufus is using is Equate Advanced Triple Strength Glucosamine Chondroitn MSM. The Human pill was also 1/3 of the price of the Dog brand!
