    Hey Steve,

No help on the 3-way technique you river boys employ, but I’ll second the thumbs up to the telescoping rods from Cabela’s. Nice soft action to them so they don’t rip out lips, great for storage concerns, and affordable also.

Steve, I’m not sure about those rods for 3-ways. I’ve got the same rods and I guess I’ll give them a try, but nothing works as good as a GLoomis 7 ft. crankbait series rod.I think a guy might have to use PowerPro line to make up for the extra bend with the 9’6″. Depends how much backbone they have.

I am getting the 9′ not the 9’6″

I have a couple of 8’6″ two pc rods that work well for 3-ways. I am curious if anyone here use a 9′ for 3-ways.

Steve, They will work, but if the fish are hitting light and the rod is in a holder it is hard to detect the bite. I tried them once and if I were you I’d go with something that has a little softer tip. For the price the depthmasters are a decent leadcore rod, and will work ok for longlining.

Kerry said it perfectly. For 3 ways I like 7’6″ Tactix from Berkley or 7-9″ Fenwick HMX. They both work very well for most trolling methods. I have run up to 8oz weight I pour on the 7’6″ rod.

I use the 8’6″ for long line, bouncers and 3 ways. I rarely pull 3 ways, mostly bouncers but they work really well for both long line and bouncers. Not a bad rod at all, especially the price. The telescoping aspect is one of the main reasons I chose them, fit nicely in my side rod storage. If I broke one, I’d replace it with the same.

Steve, For live bait I like cabelas xml walleye series eight and a half foot. These are great when you don’t need a lot of weight, 2 oz or less. When I go heavier the St. Croix wild river ten and half foot.

Do you use the same rods when pulling cranks with 3-ways?

I run and train competition coonhounds throughout the year as any of you dog owners know in the summer time its a big concern of keeping your dog hydrated and healthy. I currently use a couple supplements to help but was wondering what some of you guys use or recommend with your bird dogs in the heat? I know I have seen some posts on here before and couldn’t seem to find them. Thanks

i just keep plenty of fresh water with for the dog, and that is all.

I have read enough studies on the “gatorade for dogs”, that i would never waste my money. dogs do not process things the same way our bodies do.

Wishin- I run hounds as well. They can get run down fast once our bear training season opens. We give them a multi vitamin every 2 days during the season. Also a cod liver oil tablet. Also glucosime/chondrotin tablets. I get this all from the dollar store. So even with 10 dogs it is very cheap. Basically $1.50 a dog per month. We back off during the off season. Then we add whey fat to the food. This alone really seems to help keep the wait on them. Normally 2-3 cups per 50lb bag of dog food. We trans fer the food from the bag to a 20 gallon plastic tote. Then add and shake(mix) as we put the feed it. When done right the food will have a little coating on each nugget. Just have to watch the stool. If it starts to get soft you are feeding to much.

Been thinking of using a extruded fat nugget. Got a place I can get them, but they are a bit more costly. May just try a bag this year.

Then a high quality food is important, along with plenty of fresh water.

Also I try to keep a few beaver carcasses on head in case a dog get too run down. Nothing brings them back faster!!!
