My pooch needs an invisible fence. I’m also looking to purchase an e-collar soon.

Who makes cross-over collars that will work for field and yard applications?

    Thanks,

    Sully

ok sully here is my two cents worth in the little that i know. i dont know of any good e collars that transfer over
not to say they arent out their as far as e collars are i have tried dt, dogtra, sport dog, and tri tronics i have labs. when it comes to collars we use and abuse the hell out of them waterfowl hunting all over wi, mn, and the dakotas from Sept till dec and upland tourneys from dec till april and then pheasnt and chukar all summer crazy temp changes and lotts of water. i would only buy one brand of collar hands down the tried and true tri tronics
and not the CHEAP sport version go with a good one i would go talk to john west at scheels he knows a fair amount but i dealwith tri tronics my self and they have not only had the best costumer service but been the most knowlageable then any otheir e collar company. dont fall for the fm transmit BS from dt its [censored] but hey its just my 2 cents know one elses

I doubt there is one made for both. I have taken and swapped the invisible fence transmitter between different sized collars and it is simple. I think you could just mount the invisible fence transmitter nicely on a field collar. I have no clue if any interference or any other type of problem would be possible so I would talk to the people that know the product for sure. Good Luck.

Sully, the companies I am familar with do not make such a crossover.
You know the brand of collars I use. I use them everyday a minimum of 2 hours. Thats everyday, great customer service if any problems do arise.
I also suggest whatever brand you go with as far as e-collars are concerned, go with the upper echilon in the line.

Not to hijack your post but I am also in need of an invisible fence for my yard and two labs – yard is 100′ wide X 300′ long with the backyard ending in a river. What do you guys recommend? I would like to cover the yard in a U shape fashion leaving the river portion open as they like to go down there and cool off/drink while they are loose in the yard.

Both of my labs are reasonably trained with the tone on my tri-tronic e collars (I have the two in one transmitter) and it’s my understanding that the invisible fences work on the same tone principle.

    Thanks!

I really have no experience in this but doesnt the wire (fence) have to make a full loop so I dont think a u shaped idea would work.

Was thinking the same thing – but you should be able to put a terminator or something similiar on each end of the ‘U’ to allow the system to think it’s a complete loop and work accordingly. No electrician here or anything but that should work in my mind – kind of like how you have to terminate any unused end of a lowrance network…

    Anyone have any experience here?

They can make a complete loop with any shape by doubling back, just have to pay for the wire by the foot . Invisible Fence has been a good company to us and helped keep my dog out of trouble. Just give them a call 3202533647 is the number I have for them. Probably depends on your location. Good Luck.

I just bought one a couple weeks ago from an Online company. Radio something….I think it was Radiofence.com. Super easy to install. Infact, I didn’t even put mine underground. Just ran it in the weeds. Already was a crack in th edriveway where it had to go, So i just layed it in there and caulked over it. Works fantastic for both my dogs. I bought an extra collar and 500′ extra wire and it was $279.

It looks like Innotek makes a system called contain and train, but it won’t likely be suitable for field work.

I think there is an opportunity here for a company to step up and make a nice crossover unit.

    Thanks for the help guys!

Not saying it won’t happen but the companies I am familar with say there is no plans in the future to make such a unit.
