I now have two dogs ( I just adopted one in Nov. ) and both will retrieve great by themselves, but when I work them together the dogs will not honor the others retieve.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Here is a very basic way to start. Work them alone at first. Have them at their starting position. Toss the retrieve but make them stay. Then you go out and pick up the retrieve. Do this to the tune of you picking up about 75% of the retrieves. I also start using their name to send them on the retrieve. I also give 3 of 4 other names sometimes just to make sure they are paying attention. These 2 methods are training the dog that not every retrieve is his.
Now if you are using them for upland hunting, I would steady them to the shot and flush.

Now once they are doing well on their own, work both of them together. Have both of them sitting by your side, use the stay command if you use it. Toss the retrieve and the dog that remained the steadiest gets the retrieve. I will also pick up the retrieve when doing the two dog drill.
