I have a Lab that WILL NOT respond to a Toe pinch or a Ear pinch of any kind, I have tried it all. I know the E-collar would work but what problems may I encounter on down the road using this method to start FF?

The main problem this poses is the dog would not understand what the stimulation is for. How many sessions have you tried with the ear pinch and toe hitch?
How old is the dog?? How much training has been done prior to the ff training?? Is it your dog or just one you are training for some one else? I have seen it happen before. Its hard to see exatly what is happening over the computer with out first hand knowledge but I wouldnt go the ecollar way, thats just my opinion.
A little more back round?? How is the retrieving?? I am assuming you are ff cause the dog drops the dummy?? Maybe at your feet?? How are you doing the training?? On a table????
She just turned 3 and has couple NAHRA titles. This is round number 3 for us with same results as last year. Tried ear pinch with thumbnail, Shotgun shell, bottle cap, collar buckle, just clams up. First one I’ve seen do this. Holds great
Well that eliminates most of my thoughts. Sounds like she has pleanty of training and should be old enough to no what is going on.
I have seen a few dogs go so far then just quit. Still a good dog just wants to be done learning. I have also seen them get home sick when away from there owners for several months. Quit hunting/training all together.
Don any ideas??
Just trying to reason with this but if she clams up any pinching wont help. I am thinking the color would end up being your worst night mare. Not sure you are going to be able to ff her. Is she not picking up blind retreives??? Is this the need for the ff. I am not a field trial guy so i got nothin. Just trying to help with reasoning.
have you tried different environments for the FF training? my lab i have now, we hit a major road block in FF, and after a month of no progress, i talked to a pro who said to go someplace other then the garage to do this. so i took him up to a park we train at, and did some sessions on the tailgate of the truck.
it was like a brand new dog…
just something to try.
Are you trying to run ladder drills or force to pile?
You may want to back up to your last successful training session and work from there. Its possible the dog is stressed from the pressure. Thus the more pressure the more stress. Usually presistence and light pressure will work better than appying more pressure.
Work a session where the dog is doing something it succeeds and has fun with then switch back to your ff. If it doesn’t succeed in a few minutes go back to other training and try again later.
Thanks for all your input guys. Jewel will be spending the next few weeks with Pro Trainer Kathy Swab. Kathy will get this point across . I’m not planning on any pile work until FF is complete. I’ll post her results
