Alright, so my dog (weimerener (sp)) was limping on his front shoulder for five days or so. This is the second time this year he has hurt the shoulder. The last two days he has been fine (no limping of any sort), what I am want advice on is would you guys hunt him tomorrow as it is the last day of the season and he has all year to recover if he does pull something or would you skip it. He is five years old and in the prime of his career, we have hunted more this year than any previous and I wonder if this was part of the problem.

Did you had him looked at by a vet to see what was wrong?

I would hunt him if you don’t have any concerns with long term damage. Maybe have some pain reliever(whatever your vet recommends along).

My roommate from college is a vet and I just told him over the phone what was going on, he said it sounds like a pulled muscle and he should be good but i am a little scared since it came back. I think I am going to hunt him as it seems like not much.

If the dog wants to hunt let him hunt. Just my opinion. That is what I did with my coon hounds.

Since you say he was fine for the last few days. It most likely may not hurt to hunt him. Then again it might. Does sound like a possible pulled or strained muscle. if that is the case vet won’t be able to do much other than an anti inflamatory. If it popps up again getting him to the vet is a good idea.

Just like anytime we pull a muscle it can be agravated again easily until healed. Same goes for a tear. Ever pull a hammy. Takes time to heal!

Hunt him see how it goes and visit the vet.

    Good luck,

    Steve

Since it is the last day I would give him a go. Just monitor the dog closely.

Well we ended out hunting and it was a big mistake (hopefully every one can learn from my error). Ten minutes in my dog went through a brushy area and started yelping to beat the band. We had to carry him out of the field as he will not put any wait on his front leg and I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow morning to see what is going on.

I feel really bad but I guess all a guy can do is learn from him mistake.

    Good luck to everyone.

You still may have made the right choice. I have taken dogs to the vet with similar symptoms. May sound strange but they have told me to go ahead a hunt the dogs.
Let us know how the vet visit turns out. X-rays may not show enough your dog may need an MRI.
