Blood in dogs poop

While hunting today I noticed that my dog had some blood in his poop. It looked to be a line down the side of the terd and not a pool of it. I thought I noticed it a couple days ago also while in the field. Should I get him in asap or can I wait until monday. He is hunting all day and not slowing down so he is not weak and he seems fine. I would show a picture but I think the description is good enough

    Thanks in advance, Bill

There are many things that can cause this. I would take the dog in on Monday with a sample.

I am hoping it was just minor. What were the results?

Would like to hear the results myself.

You know, blood can also come from running hard. Mostly in hounds though. Since most of them are open on trail(barking) they tend to bite the tongue. Sometimes it gets bad, and blood is everywhere. We always check the dogs over real good after a chase for anything. Still there are times when nothing shows for days. Then a scratch from a claw swipe may appear, or a lump from a good hit starts to form. These lumps an get scary. The swell up badly sometimes to the point of popping. Then a pin size hole can turn to a half dollar in no time. Dog is off duty for weeks.

If I see blood in the stool. I wil first take into account the running time. Then after a day or two I still see it will worm the dog. If after 5-7 days I still see it or have other symptoms earlier then off to the vet. Other symptoms may be lethargy, glazed eyes, not wanting to hunt, not eating, and trouble getting up or moving.

Hounds, especially bear hounds, take a real beating in the field. Jumping the gun early, running to the vet gets very costly.

Sorry for the delay guys. When I dropped the sample off he gave me a antinflamatory medication since he figures his intestine is inflamed. He tested at the vet and found nothing and then sent it out for more tests and they found nothing as well. He said that some dogs get so jacked up when they are hunting that the inflamation starts causing them to poop a lot and sometimes with blood. He told me as long as it is not pooling up it should be fine. So all is good! I get that jacked up feeling when im out as well, just wish I could go wherever I wanted to go .

    Thanks, Bill
