I had one purchased and was third in line for a female from the litter but mom gave birth to 9 males and 2 females! I’m bumbed so I’m back to the drawing board…Here is what I’m looking for: A yellow or ivory female that will tend to be on the smaller side (55-60lbs…) when an adult. Going to be family and hunting dog with an emphasis on pheasants. Calm is a must. Looking to pickup the puppy at 7-8 weeks and would like to do that second week in April to the end of April. Plan on training myself. Any input on any leads would be awesome! Thanks…RR

I would strongly recommend a Brittish Lab…They are smaller in stature (females run about 50 pounds, males top out at around 65) and they have for decades been bred for their mild disposition. Yet they are hunting machines.

There are a handful of really good breeders in MN, some are a bit more spendy than others. In the higher-end (expense-wise) breeders they all seem to sell their pups with limited registrations, meaning that you cannot breed your dog.

I researched the heck out of this about 3 months ago and landed on a breeder just west of the Cities in Dassel, MN. Larry Laqua, Legand Gun Dogs. He is a full time breeder and trainer. We picked up a pup from him just prior to Christmas and could not be happier. IM me and I’ll get you his contact information if you are interested.
