Man Confesses To Poisoning Neighbor’s Black Lab
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) ― A Bloomington, Minn. man faces felony charges after he confessed to poisoning his neighbors black lab.
Police said Aaron Maenke, 26, of Bloomington confessed to poisoning Jessie, Corey McClellan’s black Labrador.
McClellan said he never received any complaints about two-year-old Jessie or his two other dogs. Then one day last summer he found Jessie in grave shape, foaming at the mouth.
The dog had to be euthanized. The veterinarian said the dog had been poisoned.
“I can’t imagine what kind of suffering Jessie went through before we had to euthanize him,” said McClellan.
The family found a half gallon container of insecticide in their back yard. McClellan suspected his neighbor and on trash day searched his garbage. There he found a missing section of the container that held the insecticide.
“I love my dogs and they’re a member of my family and it felt like someone had taken a member of my family away from me,” said McClellan.
McClellan called police about the poisoning. When police confronted Maenke about it, he confessed to poisoning the dog.
“He said that he was fed up with the dog being a nuisance in the neighborhood, barking incessantly,” said Detective Jerry Robertson of the Bloomington Police Department.
Police said it’s fairly common for them to receive calls because of a dispute between neighbors over a dog. However, in this case Maenke, or any other neighbors, never complained about this dog.
Maenke has been charged under a new felony anti-animal cruelty law. If convicted he faces up to two years in prison.
. Even hardcore guys hate pet killers.
Now granted, no one likes a barking dog but this certainly is not the way to deal with that type of situation. It’s not the dog’s fault. I hope he receives the maximum sentence.
