Brittish Labs?

My family was dealt a pretty rough blow a few weeks ago…Our beloved lab, Bailey, died unexpectedly. She was only 8 years old. I’d brought her into the vet a few days earlier as she wasn’t eating. Blood tests suggested it was anaplasmosis (like Lymes), but it apparently wasn’t as that disease would not have taken her so abruptly.

It’s been a rough few weeks dealing with her loss – both for me and my family. We’re going to need a few months before we’re ready for a pup (likely get one in the spring) and I’m considering getting a Brittish Lab.

Bailey was an American Lab, fox-red with strong field trial bloodlines. Great hunting dog and a very mellow family hound as well. The more I read about those British Labs, the more impressed I become.

I just don’t know anyone first-hand who has ever had one. Looking for some feedback and possibly some suggestions on breeders.

Any info would be very greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your loss, that is the part of being a pet owner that no one likes. I have a Brittish lab that will be 4 in February, and I could not be happier with him. He has a great disposition, never barks, and is only about 60 pounds. He hunts pheasant, ducks, and grouse fantastic. He is the Fox red breed that you mentioned your dog was. His mom and dad were both of champion lines, so he has good traits. I have done all the training myself, and while he is not a field trial dog by any means, he is all I need in a hunting dog, as well as a great fishing partner, and all around good family pet. If you want some info on the breeder I got him from, feel free to PM me. Good luck in your decision.

I do not know were you are located but if I was looking for a Brittish Lab, I would look no farther than Royal Flush Shooting Preserve. It is located just west of Hinkley Mn. Contact them and ask for John, tell him that you heard of his dogs from IDA. He will answer all of your questions. We had a shoot there last winter and even got a tour of his kennels and his dogs. I came away thinking WOW.
