The vet asked if I wanted to have my dog chipped. Does any one have any ideas on this. Is it a good thing or not.

I was told to do it by my trainer and the vet. The vet said that all animal shelters scan the dogs before taking them in.

Yes, I did it. The cost is not bad, actually cheap for the safety and security of getting my buddy returned to me if he ever feels the need to run.

The readers are now universal (can read any manufacturers).
    It is a good thing.
Don’t just think about loss, but theft as well!
    Good Luck

I’ve had mine chipped. On a side note 2 years after it was chiped we couldn’t find it so we needed to put another one in. (it was free of charge but still have them check it before you leave)

If I remember correctly, it was 40 bucks or so to have the chip, and then another 10? or so to have it registered with the AKC.

I called my vet in Buffalo to see what they charge. (Ours came with one so I had no idea.) They charge $70.25 and take they care of all processing and reporting. I would assume this will probably be close to what you will see in the metro. If not shoot me a PM and I’ll get you the info for my vet.

My golden got away from me the other day and the chip was used for the first time. He actually only went to the other side of the block, but the people that grabbed him saw the Homeagain tag and called the number because they didn’t notice my name and address rivited to his collar (). In any case, Homeagain called me and were very helpful! So I obviously think the chip is a good thing. I recall it costing ~$100, but I’m not exactly sure. Plus, the St. Paul vet costs more than most…
