I have a three year old black lab that I have been working with for the past month. He has been doing really well with water retrieves. The last few times out we started working on getting him to wait till I tell him to get the bird. I have been really happy with him and was getting really excited about the up comming hunting season.
Now for the sad part of the story In the past three weeks he has lost 20 pounds. He was a big lab to start with. At his last check up he weighed in at 113 pounds now he is down to 93pounds. I thought it was just from doing more exercise, he was getting back in to shape. But the other night he had an accident while he was standing in the kitchen. My wife had just got home after being gone for a week, so we just figured he got excited. But then last night while he was lying on the floor he had another accident while laying down I started thinking something was wrong because he has not had an accident since the third day we got him. This morning when we got him out of his crate to take him outside, he had another accident. This time as soon as he stood up and started walking he just started peeing.
So my wife took him to the vet this afternoon and they ran a bunch of test on him. When she left all that they could tell her is that they did not know what was wrong with him. It could be lyme or heart worm. But we have been giving him his heart worm so the don’t think its that. They are also thinking that he might be diabetic. But its sounds like they are just guessing at this point on what is wrong. They took blood and did a urine test. The urine test came back two time with different results each time. So we now have to wait for the blood work to come back.
The vet said that if we thought the dog was happy going out and doing his training to continue doing it. I just am worried about doing it if he is sick. He lost that much wait and it can’t be good for him to continue to loose it that fast right??
I just hope that his test come back with somthing simple. I am worried and starting to freak alittle about the fact that the vet has no idea whats going on.
