Got my liitle guy into a field just inside city limits, and I know there are birds around. His nose was to the ground and was begining to quarter, all good signs. Next step, I’ll get a bird out of the freezer and have my son distract him while I drag the pheasant through the grass and hide it in the grass at the end, hopefully he will show some interest. I have a trainer who will help me when we move to live birds. He trains GSP’s he hunts behind on horseback.

Training has been going good. I have been working more on getting my dog in shape and Fetching. Now that the weather is starting to get cooler I will be geting hm back on birds. I hope to start hitting the game farms and the field in two weeks. He still need some work on the fetch thing. He loves the tennis ball but will not pick up a bumper unless it has a wing on it.

I’d be curious who that is. I knew a bunch of the old timers (Terry Kroemmenhauk, Lee Allison, Ronnie Dahlman, Steve the vet, Ted Piepo) down there that were in the Ringneck GSP club. Allison and I used to go to my grounds in N.D. together.

It’s Terry, he’s a great guy and not too bad a stick chasing walleye in Lake Francis Case, you can pm me your name and I’ll say hi to him from you at church. I’ve been trying to get him up to the big pond, maybe this fall if he’s not too busy.
My training hit a brick wall. Dog had emergency surgery and now has a huge opening on her side. So much flesh gone it cant even be stitched. She has been basically immobile for over a week now and has 3-4 left before hard exercise. Can you believe the timing?? I have to start from scrach to get a jello dog back into condition. If all goes well she will be in condition just before pheasant but no time for game farm warmups. Dam dog has had health issues every year but she is a good hunter.

Wow that is bad timing. It shouldn’t take to long to snap her back in shape. She must be going nuts though!

Sad to here about your dog. I hope all does well and she gets back going in time for some hunting.

Its not all bad. I’m a life long non-dog grouse hunter. I will have a great time doing that this year. I wouldnt even consider a pheasant trip without dog so its up to her if I do that. I’m sure we’ll get out.
