I have a 3 month old lab that acts like i beat her. I have never been too aggressive towards her but she still tucks her tail and runs when she does something wrong, or i raise my voice. I just say no in a low and Stern voice and she turns and wont come back to me. What can i do to fix this?? Thanks

Your pup is using one of her “escapes”. Quite common for a dog to run or cower as an escape. First off I would put a leash on her so she can’t run off. I don’t know how much training you have done but I would go back to the introduction phase of training. If you are training her for hunting you would want to start with kennel, sit, heel and here. Lets take kennel for example, to start off, I am just introducing the dog to what kennel means. With the pup in front of the kennel and on a leash, say kennel and keep saying it while you gently lead her into the kennel. Usually leading her in by holding on to her collar works. Let her turn and come right back out and then repeat the process over again. Praise and pet her for a short time when she comes back out and then send her back in again. It turns into a game for the pup and you have the leash to cut off her escape. This will be important when you move on to the next phase of training. Take a few days with this or a few weeks however long it takes. Enventually you will get to the point where you can say kennel and the pup will run in on your first command. The whole time you never had to raise your voice and hopefully you now have a compliant pup. Do the same for the other commands also. Remember, we are introducing the pup to something new or at least a new way to do it, so no reprimands!
If you can stake your pup out that will help also. This helps build their confidence and they learn they can’t run off to solve a problem. This will depend on how close your neighbors are or how they tolerate barking.
I would also introduce the pup to birds. Let her roll on them, eat them, whatever. Make it all positive and again no demands on the pup. This should also help her confidence.

make sure you don’t coddle or sweet talk this pup when it exhibits this behavior.you may be trying to build its confidence but it will only reinforce the cowering.
