Now that fishing season is in full swing I see the Dog forum is quiet. Did we all forget about the dogs. Has anyone been out training? I have not been going much but fetch work. He still need some work with that game. If only I could get him to fetch up a walleye or two My dog was not happy with me this weekend for leaving him home while I was fishing.

Let me start by saying I am not trying to hijack your post. But I think people are literally forgetting about them. Went to Target on lunch break and there was a dog in the truck next to mine with the windows all up! Just got back to work and checked on weather.com and it is 88 degrees in Eagan now. I think the punishment should be locking those people in there on a hot day and maybe they will figure it out, or maybe not. I am off my soapbox now.

Doing some water retrieves and some short 5 minute sessions in the field. He gets to go fishing if the temps are not too high. That black fur heats up quick! He loves watching the ducks and the animals scurrying around on shore.
I don’t think or at least I hope none of us are forgetting about our hunting partners. Most probably are not hitting the training too hard because of the heat and ticks.Don HansonPosts: 2073May 14, 2007 at 5:59 pm #570962Getting mine out for walks everyday. Just some fetch work and walks in the evening before bed. I need to find a lake to take him for a swim to burn off the energy, if not its going to be a long summer.

May 14, 2007 at 7:15 pm #31559My training has been short sessions in the evening. I also have a pond close to home that the dog gets to swim in daily. It has gotten to the point that she wants to run straight there when I let her out of the kennel. The dogs in the hot car also bothers me. I travel a lot for work, so weather permitting I like to bring the dog with. Last week was way too hot, so I left her home where she could hang out in the shade. My parents just put their 12 year old Golden down, so they love watching my dog. I am sure the novelty will wear off in a couple months and I will have to bring her with on these trips.

May 14, 2007 at 8:21 pm #31561We are usually training daily in some form or another. When the weather gets warmer we run the fields late in the afternoons. We will be doing more water work as the weather warms and the opportunities arise. We are also starting to road the dogs in the late evening to keep them in shape. Hey we are always running out of pigeons, does anyone have any reliable source???

May 14, 2007 at 9:34 pm #31562I do not mean to sound like a dummy but what is roading? If you find some brid let me know. The dog could use a few.

May 15, 2007 at 1:36 am #31563Roading is perhaps a loose term that means running the dogs for building up their stamina. We usually run the dogs various lengths of times and distances with a 4-wheeler.

May 15, 2007 at 1:37 pm #31567I could use some pigeons. I have some high school kids in SW MN that I buy from when I am down there. If anyone is interested, I could give you a contact to pick some up down there.

May 15, 2007 at 5:16 pm #31571Forget you’re dog ’cause of fishing?
Yikes – hope not, especially for all you lab guys.
This is the busiest time of the year for dog owners Hunt tests & Field Trials are in full swing right now.
Last week we were in Eagle Wisc running AKC FT. Didn’t do so hot, but running against Joe Vicari – the all time winningest amateur trialer I think you are expected to finish second.
We did get a chance to debut our newest scout.

May 17, 2007 at 2:51 pm #31584Everyday, just not as long due to the heat. Been putting a lot of water work in like everyone else seems to be doing. The frozen birds are taking a beating.
A lot of family walks in the early evening as well
