I personally like thr Tritronics. I would recommend the flyway series. This one has been the best one I found. I have mine for multiple dogs and you can adjust the setting for each dog with the handheld. Works great for when you have a stubborn one and a gentle one whon only needs a tick. Some of the cheaper ones are ok, they just don’t have all the features and you loose range with them also. I have three labs and I can control all of them if I need to.

February 4, 2007 at 11:08 pm #28836I second the Tritronics. Spend the money on a good “hearing aid” now, don’t go cheap. I personally have a field 70 for my 2 labs, never had a problem, love the 1 1/2 mile range for when there is a dog across the neighborhood in heat

February 4, 2007 at 11:08 pm #28837I have a TriTronics Field 90 G2 that I would recommend to anyone. My friends and dog trainer really like their sport and classic series collars. The Flyway series is also very nice, but it might be more than you need. I sold these collars for two years and rarely ever saw one come back after it was sold. I think I returned one of probably 100+ collars sold. TriTronics has great customer service too. I could order a battery or collar for a customer and feel confident it would be there within 2 days.

February 5, 2007 at 1:48 am #28838I run the dogtra 202 these days, great collars! I’ve also run the Tritronics in the past, also solid! My family’s rather large and runs a lot of dogs, the other brands DID NOT hold up. They all run one of these 2 brands now. Did I mention the customer service! Excellent, both of them.
BIRDDOG
P.S. Get something with tone or page. Tone and page are a great option once the dog is collar trained.

Don HansonPosts: 2073February 5, 2007 at 3:57 pm #28849Check all the features of the brands out there. Momentary, continous and tone are important features. decide on the range you would like also. I hunt mostly heavy cover so the 400 yard range suites me fine. Look at the mid range prices on up. Seems like any problems have been with the lower end units. When you do get a collar, start out with the lowest setting that will get a response from the dog.

February 8, 2007 at 9:55 pm #28965We use a Tri-Tronics Upland Special XLS. (Two dog unit) We have had great luck with it. After nearly four years of trouble free use we sent the entire unit back to Tri-Tronics for new batteries and a look over. In less than 10 days it was returned. The only part that hadn’t been replaced/updated was the carrying case which still had a couple pieces of Pro-Plan in it. We couldn’t be more happy with the product and the customer service.
