With the season winding down I am looking forward to the off season training. What do you include in your off season training sessions.
Here is a shot of “Kota” working the heavy cover this morning.

I’m not as serious as most of you are. I keep my dog fit in the off season by walking, fetching and water training . Me and the pup dont do a whole lot Jan-Mar. That’s are R&R season. Fattening up season.

I have an unfortuante circumstance that does not allow me to work the dog in the off season. My younger dog (now 6) has a sugar issue. Acording to the vet she burns alot of sugar. During the hotter times of the year three or for times with the dummy can send her into shock and she’ll have a seizure. I get her out for walks an she does some swiming but no real good training any more. I use products with sugar in them or even honey during the hunting season to make sure she has enough. So for me no shooting unless I bring her to the job site and she can listen to the nail guns but then she gets confused and starts retrieveing 2 x”s j/k

Stick boy that is a serious drag. You’re dog is fortunate to have as dedicated owner as you to watch her health so closely. All dogs regardless of breed should be so lucky.

Depending on the dog and where it is at, with training we may shoot as often as 4 times a week, but most are on the two field sessions a week schedule. The balance of the work is yard or table.

Enough roading to keep them in shape so that they can run a walking or horse trial when time comes.

An open invitation to anyone who would like to come down to the south end of the metro to train with our group. We usually meet Thursday nights after work and Saturday mornings.

I was going to do some training with birds on Saturday but you peaked my interest. Where in the south metro? You can pm details if you like, thanks.

Not a drag at all. I am lucky enough to have got a dog from a good breader. she was extremly easy to train, picked up on every thing very quick so quick I was haveing to take steps backwards just to make sure. Her problem didn’t start until maybe about 1 1/2 years old so we got alot of traing in. I also sent her back to the breader at 1 yr. to finish up training I didnt feel confident doing. So if any one is lucky it would be me
It realy isnt as bad as it seems. we still do a little training and get some exercise just not when its hot. I usally hunt alot (week in nd) for example, the first couple of trips get her rite back in shape. Kinda interesting how well one get to know their pet.
