My pup and I got our first taste of a Hornets nest this weekend.
I have never had a dog stung and hope to never see it again. In the matter of 30 seconds my dogs face was swolen from Nose to eyes and she was having trouble breathing. (Needless to say I was scared.) 15 minutes later after breaking a couple speed limits I had her in the vet. I think the we were both visibly shaken so the vet took special attention. (BTW any one living around Buffalo look up Buffalo Companion Animal Clinic.) Dr Ron Moore was amasing. He took both of us in back while he performed his check up. Heart, Lungs ect.. they are still in good shape. I appreciated him allowing me in back. It was probably more comforting for me to be with the dog than the other way around.
10 minutes later and a shot of Anti Inflamitory my girl was on the mend. For those that have not bee through this. It sucks! The vet recomended I keep a package of Benedryl in my hunting bag. A 60lb dog can take 50MG every 3 to 5 hours and will take care of the problem. (If you know it was a sting!)
This may be comon knowledge for many of you. But for the one reading this that isn’t. Learn from my ignorance. Keep Benedryl and know where your local Vet is at. It may save your pup.
I will have pictures of my girl later today.
