What are the signs of bad hips on a pup? Should I be concerned about a limp here or there?
First noticed it on my dog at about 6 months old. She would “bunny hop” up stairs. I then put my hands on her hips and could feel them pop. Brought her into the vet and when they would lay her on her back and try to stretch or straighten those back legs out she cried. She was spayed shortly after and we had them do x-rays at that time. Turned out she did have hip dysplasia and was put on Cosequin. She’s 4 years old now and we just recently put her on Rimadyl to help relieve any discomfort/pain. If I were you I would take your pup in and have those hips checked out.

Had a redbone hound pup that had a hitch in his gait. When he ran it was more like a crow hop on his hind legs. I took him to the vet and had x-rays taken and found that there were no sockets in his hips at all. The breeder stood behind the pup and picked up the vet charges also. He also had the rest of the dogs in the litter x-rayed too at his expense. Do the dog a favor and get x-rays

I agree with the rest. Get the dog checked. There are a ton of options once you know. My last golden had it. At about 5 years we had her hip done. One season out of the field and she was back in action. (Much slower action though.) If you take the time and have things done correctly the dogs can live a long healthy life even with Dyslpasia. Ace lived to be 12 and had problems for the last year. But for a number of years after the surgery you wouldn’t have know.
IMO keeping the dog in shape after any treatment is the biggest key.
Good luck

This is a good opourtunity to remind people to only purchase pups that come from hip and eye certified parents and that have a general health guarrentee. Good for the owners and good for the future of hunting breeds.
