There is no better school then yourself. A dog in the field is much more fun (to me) if you have put the time into it yourself, and made a respectable dog. You can even do classes at PetSmart, PetCO or any of those places, which will force you to spend some time with it on basic obedience.

But any training you do with it is only as good as how much you enforce it on a daily basis. I get a kick out of training, but it is not for everyone.

Good luck, and sorry, did not mean to hijack your post.

The trainer I go through does very good owner involvement training. He will train your dog for you, but prefers to teach the owner and dog at the same time. The trainer is in St. Cloud, and that would probably be a very long drive for you. If interested, I can give you more information.

Tom takes his yellow lab to Magnum Kennels in Mt. Iron. I have seen Chief work and he is unbelievable. Rob even takes him to field trials and he is one away from getting his masters.
