I have a year old half Chessie/half English Lab that is a great hunter and companion. I built a really nice outside kennel, however my fiance insists that he spend his nights in the house with us. The problem that I am having is that he sheds an incredible amount of hair everyday. I bought numerous types of brushes and try to brush him out, but it doesn’t seem to matter. Does anybody have a nice remedy to slow down the process of shedding? It is really bad now that it is spring. I should buy Swifer stock as we go through about a box of wipes every week. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My dog groomer just started offering a process called the “furminator”. The dog gets a shampoo that loosens up some of their undercoat, and then the groomer uses a specially-designed comb/vacuum to remove a lot of that undercoat hair. The result is a huge pile of hair on the groomers floor, and DRAMATICALLY reduced shedding in your house. We just had this done on our shaggy golden retriever, and it has made a WORLD of difference.

I had no idea they had such a device. I am going to see if there is a groomer in my area that can Furminate my dog. Sounds cool too.

    Is it pretty expensive?

    Thanks a bunch

I think it was an extra $10 on top of the standard grooming fee. Worth every penny!

I was completely skeptical before having it done, but I can honestly say that’s it’s made a huge difference in the number and size of the hairball tumbleweeds rolling through our house.

take your dog swimming. i do this about every other day and he looses alot of the hair in the water when he is jumping in and swimming( i know this cuz he jumped into our swimming pool once and was in there for about a min. the filter was full of hair) it also helps shine up its coat

Buy your fiancé a new vacuum. She’ll let the dog sleep outside.

That’s funny. Last night about 10:00 I was picking the dog hair out of the vacuum cleaner. That was the whole reason I thought I would ask the question.

Just a little reinforcement regarding “furminating”. My son has 2 shedding labs and has been having them furminated for the last 6 months. It really helps.
